My sons love this video! It has alot of great songs and educates about other winter holidays. It also has a great message in it. This should be in your video library if you are a bear fan!

I must start by addressing the previous reviewer; if you want to "Have Yourself a Lilly-White Christmas", then The Wiggles Christmas tape is the one to watch. They sing traditional carols, have kids dressed like Jesus, Mary and Joseph, talk about Santa, mention Hanukkah for only 15 seconds and, since it's taped in Australia where there are no Asian, African and definitely no Aborigine people of color, they've casted nothing but rosy-cheeked caucasion kids to sing and dance and never mention that "annoying" Kwanzaa thingie. But I digress.
My son loves Bear and this tape gets lots of love from me, too. Bear always has such a poignant message yet delivers it in a way that a 2 year-old can understand. When they meet Jack the homeless dog, Tutter the blue mouse worries about what would happen to him if he didn't have the Big Blue House? Where would he play? Where would he sleep? Shadow sings the Dreidel song and a Kwanzaa song. They never mention who is of what faith (though Tutter's a mouse version of Woody Allen and Treelo is a Lemur from Africa who is always accompanied by African drum background music), but it's kind of irrelevant, anyway. This is a great holiday program for modern-day parents and tots who celebrate not just Christmas, but the diversity in our lives and the freedom that we have to celebrate and worship however we choose.
For those who are irked by diversity, I think the old claymation "Little Drummer Boy" is on VHS. Happy Chrishanukkzaa!

Living as an expat in Japan it's not always easy to find good material to get the Christmas message over to the kids. Christmas it basically a Christan holiday and I think references to Kwanzaa and Hanukah dilute the value of this video (will they make a new one and include Ramadan too!!). Why can't Bear & co say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays". I would love to have seen bear and his gang singing a traditional Christmas Carol (duet with Charlotte Church would have been perfect). Still the scenes of helping the dog are great for teaching that presents are not all what Xmas is about!

Although it's called A Berry Bear Christmas, this story tries hard to not focus too much on Christmas itself, but rather on all winter holidays. The themes throughout indicate that the household is REALLY celebrating Christmas, but it's not overtly stated that they are. My 22 month old daughter got this one when she was 17 months old, and it's been one of her favorites of all the Bear videos that we have (we have most of them). Now that she's becoming more verbal she likes to point out Jack-the-Dog's tongue and nose as if they're the funniest things she's ever seen. Some traditional muppet flavor is introduced with Jack, who is performed by David Goelz (Gonzo). I love the idea that the whole household celebrates many different holidays although it's not explained exactly who is celebrating Christmas, Kwanzaa or Chanukah in the house. Bear himself celebrates the "Winter Holidays" by hosting the "traditional" hunt for the magical Winter Berry. The Winter Berry song is the best song I've heard in Bear shows, and there are some really good ones. My one complaint about this video is that it's obviously poorly recorded. Our copy has had bad sound and picture quality since we bought it. It's unfortunate that there's not a way to get a better quality version. For TV, this 50 minute show has been split into two shows (they play them separately on the Disney Channel) so the cohesiveness is lost. You should definately get this video, so you can see it as it was meant to be seen.

Pip and Pop made my four month old daughter laugh out loud for this first time! This show was a lot of fun to watch.
