After I saw the movie I was in a real "X-Men" mood so I went out and bought this game. When I started playing it I became very frustrated. It doesn't show you how to do any of the moves in the instruction book (not that I ever need an instruction book to learn moves). To do moves in this game it takes a lot of practice. So to find out how to do anything with a character you have to go into this boring and frustrating training mode. Once you master a character it is then easy to complete the game. But then, if you want to play another character, you have to go back into the training mode all over again. The endings in this game are very short and unsatisfying. The good thing is that after you have beaten the game with everybody you can view each ending linked up together and then it makes a lot more sense and you get more satisfaction. There's lot of things to unlock in this game but no codes. No secret characters. The worse part about this game is the gameplay. I recently went back to play this game after not playing it for about a year. I found out that I had forgotten to do all of the moves. So rather than go back into training mode I just turned it off and put it anyway. I'll probably never play it again.

First of all X-men is what is called a good movie. The game has alot of the same elements as the movie. It has an excellent X-men movie trailer plus extras after you beat the game. My personal favorite mutant is Wolverine. He has excellent throwing skills and cool attacks that damage opponents. I am not a fan of combat games such as Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, but this game rocks. My favorite place to battle is the danger room. In the Academy mode you train with a chosen mutant to learn their special moves. Survival mode is pretty much the same as Arcade Mode. Zerobro mode is where you can see the movie trailer and the movies you have earned. I think they could have made it a bit more challenging, but every game has its ups and downs. If you want to complete the game, you have to use all of the mutants. My suggestion is rent it first, then if you like as much as I do, purchase it.

But there are exceptions to every rule. The lack of a true combo system makes the fighting seem somewhat sluggish, especially since most moves take very little damage. But the characters are easy to use with a little practice, and before long you'll have mastered your favorite mutant. The Acadamy mode is a great addition to allow you to learn your character, but interpreting what it is telling you can sometimes be a task. (Shows a back arrow, forward arrow, then square; but doesn't tell you to charge back then press forward :(
But dispite the obvious drawbacks, this is a really good game and not as frustrating as some other titles where the special moves are almost impossible to perform.
The ending taunts are sometimes corny, and get annoying after awhile, but in the end: Great graphics, Good Gameplay, Really Pulls you in, tons of extras to unlock (although most don't effect the game).
In short, Grab a friend and play!

In X-Men: Mutant Academy, we get a good fighting game filled with tons of moves for every character. Several of them actually slow down while performing certain attacks, making the game look like the Matrix in some areas. That was impressive. The fighting is easy to learn, and soon you'll be pulling off all sorts of cool counter-attacks and ways to knock your opponent to the ground. And to add to this, they say catchy lines after defeating an opponent.
You can unlock certain features such as comic books and new costumes. Also, you can watch the film's movie trailer. As you progress, other characters can be unlocked, along with intro. scenes. However, with only 10 characters, the game gets old too quickly, unfortunately.
After beating the tournament with the players offered--which doesn't take long--you seem to grow bored with it. However, there is a two player mode, so you can battle your friends. When fighting, though, the computer is not all too difficult, so you can beat the game in a short amount of time. But for the price offered on amazon.com, it is well worth it, especially if you're an X-Men fan. Overall, this earns 4 stars because of the great graphics, moves, and how you can learn them within minutes unlike other fighting games. But it can't get the 5 stars that it should have because of lack of characters and replay value.

Okay, there's my first beef. Rogue was not in the game, yet Toad Was. You get to choose between two different comic book outfits and the characters movie outfit. Granted Gambit and Beast weren't in the movie, but they each get a rendition of the movie costume - Gambits traditional with a black trench coat and Beast gets a pair of pants. Some characters's second outfit is exactly the same as the first, just a different color. Which brings me back to - Why isn't Rogue in this game. They don't do much for the fact that Jean Grey, Storm and Magneto can fly. They just float off of the ground a bit. Mystiqu is available in her movie costume - making her look lizard like, the the comic version complete with the red hair. The voices are all good except Charles, and the endings are two short. But over all, if you like the X-men, it's a great game.
