My 3 year old grandson enjoys this and all the SCHOOL HOUSE ROCKS CD's. I didn't have such wonderful educational tools for my children so I feel so excited to be able to give it to my grandkids. I have found another CD set that we are thrilled about called SRIPTURE ROCK and ROCK THE WORD. Both of these sets capture and keep a child's attention and imagination and when used together, give any child a well rounded foundation.

Tremendous collection. How better to teach your kids than through fun music! TO round out the collection for my kids I also got the equally fantastic Bible-memory volume called SCRIPTURE ROCK, which is available separately.

...just wanted to comment on what Peter from Georgia said about all these songs fitting on two CDs rather than four -- this is true! but the reason for the four disks is that they seperate four different Schoolhouse Rock! segments -- Grammer, Science, Math, and Government. Kind of. Like, why is *electricity, electricity* on the same disk with the Grammer stuff and not the Science? I completely understand your point, just thought i'd clarify...
I grew up on these songs, and yes, this is where i learned the parts of speech, the concept of Infinity, and the Preamble to the Constitution, not only the words, but the meaning behind it!!
I still have a tape that i made in the late 80's of a few of the SHR! songs by recording them OFF OF THE TELEVISION and then making copies for friends who shared my enthusiasm.
I've hummed, sung, shared, and connected over these songs for 25 years (YEESH!!!) and i'm REALLY glad that it's still around.
If you just can't get enough of SHR!, you might want to check out the original-resurgence cover album by AltRockers Moby, Ween, Blind Melon, and The Lemonheads, among others, called Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks...
And we can't forget that there wouldn't BE a Schoolhouse Rock! if there weren't a Saturday Morning -- if yer into GenXSlackerRock, check out Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits, which came out just previous to the SHR!R release, and spurred the mid-90s revival of all things Saturday Morning.

I bought the first 3 audio CD's individually and I absolutly LOVE THEM!! I wish this four disc set were available when I made my purchases. Not only do they bring back great memories of those Saturday mornings in my childhood, but perhaps it was ABC's free version of today's "Hooked on Phonics" and even today is a great teaching tool. This set even has extra songs that my individual CD's do not, I'll not buy this set now, but you can bet if something should happen to my 3 discs (heaven forbid) it'll be at the top of my shopping list!!

It's hard to describe the nostalgic value of this music to anyone who wasn't a kid in the 70's or early 80's. You can't help but get this big goofy smile when you listen to the lyrics and all those memories come rushing back!
There is so much good in what the authors of Schoolhouse Rock did with those TV shows. Many of us had our first grammar, science, history, and math lessons in our own living rooms on Sat. mornings -- in between the cartoons. That alone was a pretty major coup for the writers. Think about it ... it's no small feat to pull a 6 year old's attention away from the adventures of their favorite cartoon hero long enough to absorb a history or grammar lesson, but they did it!! I was spellbound by these shows as a child, and although I don't have any kids of my own just yet, I'll definitely be playing the video tapes and CDs for them when I do!! (Besides, I'd take SR over Barney or the Teletubbies any day, wouldn't you?)
My praise, however, does not come without some small criticisms. For starters, this boxed set does NOT contain all the songs from the show!! It is missing 1/2 of the songs for "Money Rock". You have to purchase the 'Greatest Hits' CD to get the rest of those songs, which I think is unfair. A boxed set should be complete.
Second, I have an issue with the song 'Elbow Room' from the "America Rock" CD. Being part Native American, I simply cannot agree with the concept that 'manifest destiny' explains or justifies the treatment given to my people by the U.S government. That strikes me as a very racist attitude, although I am sure that the authors didn't intend it that way. (Remember, back in the 1970's, we still weren't teaching our children -- even in schools -- the truth about what the American government did to the Native Americans.) What happened to my people was NOT 'manifest destiny', it was attempted genocide. It isn't a part of our history that we should be proud of. Having said that, I do want to state that I have every intention of playing that song for my kids (when I have them), but I will take great pains to explain to them why I disagree with some of the lyrics.
Overall, I think that this album is worth every penny I paid for it. It is one of the best teaching tools for kids that I have ever seen. You will never forget what you learned on those TV shows! (If you want proof of that, go up to any adult you know between the ages of 20 and 35, say, "Conjunction Junction", and wait for them to start singing!!)
