If you are like me and still watch Saved By the Bell before you go to work in the morning, you will love this cd! It has great songs from when the gang formed their own rock group and from Hot Sundae, the girls' group! This CD is great!

Considering the stunning caliber of the t.v. show (at least the elementary and high school years; Zach's "college years" never did much for me), I was highly disappointed in the musical quality of this disc. Yes, some of the famous hits from the show are here, and that's a wonderful thing, if not somewhat expected. The problem with the disc lies in the baffling "filler" material, instrumental fluff that sounds way too contrived for its own good. Zach's stellar band, Zach Attack, performed countless songs on the show that were utterly priceless, pure pop songs that stayed in your head for days on end. Why not put all those songs on one disc, instead of inserting filler material that no one cares about?? The band line-up of Zach, A.C., Lisa, Screech, Kelly and "Mama" Jessie was way too talented and focused to put out such garbage. Zach Attack never rested on their laurels, they were way too ambitious. I only wonder what they themselves think of some of the drivel from this cd, songs that weren't theirs but put on here nonetheless.
Make no mistake, songs like the title track and "Friends Forever" certainly make this album worth the cost. Nonetheless, Zach Attack had much more to offer. My hope is that, at some point, perhaps a real album will be released with ALL their hit songs from the show.
On the positive side, there are precious moments on this disc that will take you directly back to certain Saved by the Bell classic episodes - especially some of the love songs. Suffice to say, my eyes welled with tears a few times during Zach and Kelly's breakup tune. The trouble is, there just aren't enough actual songs to retain the nostalgic vibe.
"Saved by the Bell" fans deserve something better.

A universally acknowledged masterpiece, Saved by the Bell represents a departure from song structure and toward a more ethereal, minimalistic approach to sound. Despite the stripped-down arrangements, the album's sumptuous tone quality reflects Mark-Paul Gosselaar's growing virtuosity at handling the recording studio as an instrument in itself (à la Brian Wilson). There are a few pop songs scattered here and there ("Saved by the Bell ," "Surfer Dude," "Deep Within My Heart"), but most of the album consists of deliberately paced instrumentals which, while often closer to ambient music than pop, are both melodic and rhythmic; many, like "Go for It," "Did We Ever Have a Chance," and "Gone Hawaiian," are highly imagistic, like paintings done in sound which actually resemble their titles. Lyrics are infrequent, but when they do pop up, they follow the free-associative style of albums past; this time, though, the humor seems less bizarre than gently whimsical and addled, fitting perfectly into the dreamlike mood of the rest of the album. Most of Saved by the Bell is like experiencing a soothing, dream-filled slumber while awake, and even if some of the pieces have dark or threatening qualities, the moments of unease are temporary, like a passing nightmare whose feeling lingers briefly upon waking but whose content is forgotten. Unlike some of his later, full-fledged ambient work, Mark-Paul Gosselaar's gift for melodicism and tight focus here keep the entirety of the album in the forefront of the listener's consciousness, making it the perfect introduction to his achievements even for those who find ambient music difficult to enjoy.
