Cry Baby: Original Soundtrack Album Music

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - AWESOME
The album is has everything for the hip cat or cool chick who loves Rockabilly music. All the great tracks from the movie are on this album. And if you like James Intveld this is a must have. Totally rock'n.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A feel good soundtrack
I will agree with other reviewers, the first half of the soundtrack is better than the second, with the first half consisting of the songs that are actually sung in the movie. The second half isn't really that great, from "High School Hellcats" onwards. (That song was never that good, and the scene/song never worked in the movie.)

I've actually been watching the film for quite a few years, and finally got the soundtrack! I love the songs in the film, although my innocent mind was kidding myself that it was actually Johnny Depp singing - boo. :( The songs are still different, but I don't agree with a couple of the other reviews, that having the songs longer than they are in the film is bad. You only clips of the songs in the film anyway, and many of them on any film are gonna be longer.

What's my favourite song? I'm not sure, actually, the worst song is definitely "High School Hellcats", but nearly all the first half is good. My favourite songs are probably "King Cry Baby", and "Please Mr Jailer", the latter is definitely the best, and has got quite a good dance routine in the film.

If you know the film well enough, you'll be doing what I'm doing, and dancing in your seat at the computer. If you love the film, you'll definitely love the soundtrack. Now I just wish I could get my hands on the director's cut of Cry Baby.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - He's the King!
After his success with the dance musical Hairspray, John Waters kept the beat going with his singing musical Cry-Baby. Waters, a longtime Elvis fan, wanted to make a genre parody of Elvis and juvenile delinquent movies. To create the character of Cry-Baby, he used the acting talents of young Johnny Depp (setting Depp on his career path of unusual roles) and the singing talents of rockabilly singer James Intveld. Alison similarly paired Amy Locane's acting with Hairspray veteran Rachel Sweet's singing. Cry-Baby's soundtrack is a fun, catchy collection of new rockabilly ("King Cry-Baby," "High School Hellcats"), sexy ballads ("Please, Mr. Jailer") and 50s novelty songs ("Rubber Biscuit") that any Drape would trade a set of hubcaps for.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best SoundTrack ever!
I think this is the best soundtrack ever! All the voices of the people singing sound exactly like the actors, which is really impressive, and i just love the vibe of the music, you dont hear music like that anymore.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun soundtrack
This is one of my favorite soundtracks! The first half of the CD is much better than the second half, but that's because the first several songs are all actually sung in the movie. I LOVE "Please, Mr. Jailer"...it's a really sexy song, and fun to listen to. This soundtrack is filled with great 50s songs. It is tons of fun.

The only thing I'm a little disappointed with is that two songs on the soundtrack differ from the movie versions. "Doin Time for Bein Young" is a completely different version...they took out the background singers (the other jailbirds that accompanied Cry Baby in the movie...you know-they're the ones who shout, "stinkin tank! stinkin tank!"), and James Intveld's (the singing voice of Cry Baby) singing is also different in this song. In the movie, the voice is yelling more than singing, but not on the CD. I liked it in the movie better, since it seemed more realistic that Johnny Depp was actually singing, but it's still good. Also, "Mr. Sandman" is different. It's hard to describe what the differences are, but they are definitely there. In parts, I think it is sung an octave higher, but who knows.

Aside from these differences, this soundtrack is awesome. If the movie made you jump out of your seat and dance, then you gotta get this CD.
