I can see why this is the number one soundtrack of all time, it has style and the hooks on the songs just make you want to listen to it over an over. Jan Hammer gave a great feel to Miami Vice. This soundtrack had two top ten songs, You Belong To The City by Glen Frey, which was 2 for 2 weeks, and the Miami Vice theme, which was one for one week. I recommend this album b/c the 80s were great and no 80s fan collection would be complete without the Miami Vice soundtrack.

....And Crockett & Tubbs cleaned up the mess due to one main reason: The urbanized rock music that catered to yuppie lifestyles really helped them out, as it played constantly in the background on the show. The music pushed these men to higher levels, and the music was always the reward. On Miami Vice, the music was King. Crockett & Tubbs realized this, and that's why nothing much ever happened on this show. These two cops were smart enough to not let actual substance get in the way of the music. The music is what was real on Miami Vice. The music and the sports cars Crockett & Tubbs humbly drove.
Amidst all the drug traficking gone bad on Miami Vice, it was the music that put a stop to the mayhem, the two men and their music. It's no secret that Detective Crockett loved to wear headphones while he was trying to solve cases. He was listening to Phil Collins, Dan Fogelberg, Chaka Khan and Jan Hammer, in order to get inspired to do some good in his community. That's what drove him. His Partner Tubbs was a bit of a useless slacker, but he, too, really loved music, and he also occasionally put on headphones while working. Cops in Miami, in the '80s, were allowed to wear headphones on the job. Crockett & Tubbs took advantage of this, and thus, were able to solve quite a few high-profile drug cases that no one else wanted to touch.
Say what you want about Miami's Crocket & Tubbs, they had a good feel for music, good musical hearts. This soundtrack, no doubt, was one of the best ones released for about 2 weeks in the stellar Fall season of 1985. Crockett & Tubbs belonged to the city, there can be no question about that.
They also belonged to the music.

I, for one, didn't. But with the success of films like "The Wedding Singer" and rappers heavily sampling hits from the decade, it seems as though the time is right to revisit some of the musical wonders of the not-so-long-ago era. I can think of no better way to do such than by listening to a copy of the soundtrack to "Miami Vice", a show that made household names of Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas? No small measure of the show's success was the music that captured the glitz, glamour, intrigue, and sexiness of the south Florida haven. This compilation does just that with tracks by megastars Don Henley, Phil Collins, Chaka Khan, and Tina Turner, all who scored big on the rock charts in the period.
Even the theme, composed and performed by Jan Hammer, was most popular, ranking with the theme from "Hawaii Five-O" as one of the best from a television crime drama.
Man, the times, they were so COOL!
