As far as Prince releases go, this is definetly in my top 5. It wasn't Purple Rain as far as the movie was concerned but, it shows that he grew in music making. Tracks like "New Power Generation" is classic Prince as well as one of the best songs ever "The Question of U" and "Joy in Repitition". Songs like those should've been released for radio. But songs like Round and Round (which is good) gets the airplay instead. The only negative to the cd is the rapping. True Prince fans/friends love this underrated disc.

No matter what anyone else tells you: this is the essential and beste Prince-album ever.

This album is very widely ranged in styles, like Around the world in a day was before. It has funk ( New Power Generation, We Can Funk, The Latest Fashion ), blues-kind ( The Question Of U, Joy In Repetition ), ballad ( Still Would Stand All Time ), rock&roll ( I Can't Stop This Feeling I got ) and the title track, which is something different from the others, very happy and sad song at once. Well, it's a great album, the only reason I don't give it a 5 is that Prince/O(+> has more powerful ones ( eg. Chaos And Disorder or Emancipation ) !

What better way to preview the cd than to rent the movie. As well thought and planned as Prince's albums usually are, you can believe there is correlation to the movie, so you'll have the background. Some tracks are meant to be lesser tracks. The best songs on this album are the title track, We Can Funk (feat George Clinton), and Melody Cool (with the powerful vocals of Mavis Staples). With George Clinton and the Prince together this is definitely the funkiest song in all of Prince's career I'd say. The Time also has 3 songs on this one which mainly are there for fun. Love Machine is sexy and inspiring in it's simplicity with a hook that sounds like a blonde joke. Also is Tevin Campbell's hit Round and Round. If you like Tevin's debut cd, keep in mind that most of it was written by Prince apparently at this time. Joy in Repetition is a fabulous sexy ballad (a requisite on every album it seems), and Graffit Brigde is an uplifting "feel-good" fave.

This is a fun-filled, guest-packed, underrated funk workout from the master man. The collaboration with George Clinton "We Can Funk" is one of Prince's best, as are "Tick, Tick, Bang" and the absolutely fantastic "Elephants & Flowers". This really is a bridge of an album, with appearances by Sheila E., Boni Boyer (R.I.P.),strings from Claire Fischer, Rosie Gaines, and the roots of the N.P.G. Minus one or two of the earliest tracks, people would be hard pressed to name a better Prince album. The ballads are pure soul and the rest rocks on the one.Stellar appearances fromn Morris Day and the Time, Mavis Staples, and Tevin Campbell. A very sassy singer named Elisa Fiorillo makes her presence felt as well. Still sounds as fresh as when I first heard it.
