Superman: The Movie - Original Sound Track Music

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superman
John William's score for Superman is some of his most exciting and heroic music ever used for film. One of the most memorable film theme tunes ever composed is "Theme from Superman", which, while in places is very close to the bold percussions of Star Wars, still stands on it's own as some of Wiliam's best work. From the uplifting "The Flying Sequence & Can You Read My Mind" to "The March of the Villains", the strong action-thrusted music conveys a sense of excitement. For movie soundtrack fans, this is a must-have.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - It's great but there's a better one available
This soundtrack is the one I own, but I have to recommend the new edition that adds 15 more tracks, plus some alternate versions. It's got to be worth it!
But, let's look at this one. I would have given it 5 stars but since the other one is out this one has been reduced by a star for lack of cues. It has some great cues on this album. And the best cues of the movie are included on this release like "Theme From Superman(Main Title)" one of the best themes of all time! Then there's "Planet Krypton" I love the solo trumpet at the beginning of this cue. Another great cue is "Trip to Earth" which is nice soft cue that is just outstanding. "Love Theme from Superman" is great and a beautiful theme that unfortunealy is ruined in the "Can You Read My Mind" cue. Listen to the Love Theme it's great skip "Can You Read My Mind". "Superfeats" and "Super Rescues" are both good action cues as Superman rescues a lot of people out of trobule. Great music. Another outstanding theme is "March for the Villians" one of the best bad guy themes of all time. It's a great low brass treatment that get's the whole brass involved a great cue. Then there's "Turning Back the World" and "End Title" both great cues. This is great music.
A must have, but buy the new edition instead of this edition. But this version is good too for it has the best hits!
Go get one of these. You will not be disappointed

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - BETTER THAN STAR WARS.
SUPERMAN 1 AND 2 IS RIGHT HERE IN ONE SOUNDTRACK. ITS THE SAME MUSIC IN BOTH MOVIES. STAR WARS YOU HAVE TO BUY 3 SOUNDTRACKS TO GET THE HOLE MUSIC. PS THE BEST SOUNDTRACK OUT THERE. GET IT NOW.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Disappointing Edition of Soundtrack
I recently ordered a 2-CD superman soundtrack from another site but they sent me this one (the 1989 release date) instead. I was quite disappointed because I was looking forward to buy this soundtrack for a long time. I put the "wrong" CD into my player and listened to the whole thing - three times. I had thought that the only difference between this CD and the 2-CD set was that it had only half the amount of tracks. I am hoping that this is the case because this was not an impressive soundtrack. I loved the Main Title (the whole reason I bought the CD in the first place) and the Finale was good. But the rest of the CD was quite lacking. It just kind of hung around until it reached the climax. The "climax" though was short and certainly not the most entertaining action music I've heard (after listening to the Star Wars Trilogy it's comparatively dull). If all this isn't bad enough, the sound quality of this particular CD is BAD. It has a prominent hiss throughout the entire soundtrack. It SOUNDS like it was a two record set! I am hoping that all of this is made better when I purchase the Feb. 2000 2-CD set. And this would certainly be my recommendation: don't even bother with this CD if you want to have Superman, buy the 2-CD edition. Because, I feel, the 1989 edition is a bad example of what I believe to be an epic soundtrack.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Soundtrack.... I'd like more
I bought the original two-cassette edition of this great soundtrack, and I miss some tracks in this One-CD edition. I would advise to buy the two-CD recent version that has just been released. Why?

Because this is a great score. Better than any of Indy's. Forget about the opening theme, which is a copy of Star Wars or any other Williams' marches. Also forget the film. Just get inside of John Williams sensitivity, working in one of his best periods.

Every track is valuable. Anyway, why did they exclude Growing Up?
