In my humble opinion, one of the best rock bands ever. I had all of the albums, then the CD's. I made the tragic mistake of selling most of my CD's after transfering the music to my Windows computer. Now, after the crash, I am slowly rebuilding my library on my more reliable, more user-friendly, iMac G5 form Apple.

If you look at Queen's body of work as a lush, modern, highly-expensive meal in a very exquisite restaurant, then this album could really be summed as no more then a "cold starter".. a little 'apperitife'. Other reviewers have already pointed out that Bohemian Rhapsody is missing, thus making it impossible for this disc to be the "utlimate collection", but I would go further: there is no track here from the post-1984 period! Nothing from "A Kind of Magic", "The Miracle" nor "Innuendo".
I give this album 4 stars because, all in all, it's still filled with great music! If you want to go with this, then also buy "Classic Queen", but my recommendation would be to buy the "Platinum Collection" (that is, of course, if all you want is a collection of their greatest hits... my real recommendation would be to buy their albuns because Queen were, indeed, an "albuns" band!).

I really wish Hollywood Records had released "Queen - Greatest Hits" and "Classic Queen" as a double disc collection rather than two separate two discs, since buying both of them would give the casual fan the most comprehensive Queen collection you could ever have. By themselves, the collections really don't hold much ground, as both of them are missing a great deal of Queen classics. But coupled together, you could not ask for a better selection of Queen songs.
Anyway, on to my review. "Greatest Hits" was the second Queen compilation released in the wake of Freddie Mercury's untimely passing in November of 1991 ("Classic Queen" was the first"). Like that previous collection, "Greatest Hits" contains 17 essential Queen classics that rank as some of the greatest rock songs ever written. How does this collection hold up? Read on for the positives and the negatives.
Positives:
-As I've been saying, if you buy "Greatest Hits" and "Classic Queen" together in one stop, you will have all the Queen you will ever need. You will indeed have all the Queen classics no one can be without, including "Killer Queen", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Somebody To Love", "You're My Best Friend", "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Under Pressure" (with David Bowie).
-If you buy both collections at the same time, you will also get many underrated gems like "Keep Yourself Alive", "I Want It All", "The Miracle", "These Are The Days Of Our Lives", "Stone Cold Crazy", "Hammer To Fall", "Who Wants To Live Forever", "Radio Ga Ga", "The Show Must Go On" (one of the Top 10 greatest songs of all time) and many others.
-Good liner notes for both cds.
-Both collections are reasonably priced, so you won't have to spend too much money.
Negatives:
-The only really negative aspect I can find is not buying the two albums together in one trip. If you buy only one of the albums, you will immediately kick yourself for not buying the other one. As I said, these collections don't really stand their ground separately.
-There is another Queen collection out on the market that is a two disc set called "Queen Greatest Hits 1 & 2". While not as concise as the two single disc collections, it includes several fantastic songs not featured on "Greatest Hits" or "Classic Queen": "Friends Will Be Friends", "The Invisble Man", "Breakthru", "It's A Hard Life", "Flash" and "Innuendo". My advice is to download those songs after purchasing "Greatest Hits" and "Classic Queen".
Conclusion: Get this cd with "Classic Queen", download the missing songs that are on "Queen's Greatest Hits 1 & 2" and you're officially equipped with the greatest Queen collection known to man.
Bottom line: get as a companion to "Classic Queen" and also find the missing songs found on "Queen's Greatest Hits 1 & 2".
