All I can say is, it is just like I remember when I watched it as a kid. Now I am a parent to boys and that watching it with them was one moment in my life I will never forget.

This movie was my favorite as a kid and it still holds up to this day.

I had this on VHS for quite a while when I was young. It is definitely a far cry from the 'Joe syndicated series, replacing great favorite characters like Snake Eyes and Zartan to spotlight a new cast of heroes (specifically, Lt. Falcon among others) and a new cast of enemies (Cobra-LA). Personally, I wouldn't have minded seeing more of Duke, Snake Eyes, Roadblock, Gung-Ho, Cobra Commander, the Dreadnoks, etc. but this was not designed as an extended episode of the series (like the "M.A.S.S. Device" and "Revenge of Cobra/Weather Dominator" episodes were). Still, I enjoyed the dynamic between Lt. Falcon and many of the heroes (his half-brother, Duke, Jinx, Sgt. Slaughter, etc.)
Incidentally (and I touched on this briefly above), as a fair warning to fans of the syndicated series: this is not an extended episode of the series as past movies have been. It takes on a darker more dramatic tone (Duke almost dies of a serpent bite and Roadblock goes blind while helping Cobra Commander escape, etc.) and it does appear to deviate into the realm of science fiction a lot (the birth of Cobra-LA, the use of mutant plant spores, the Broadcast Energy Transmitter, etc.)
Again, the movie is a great send-off to Sunbow's treatment of our favorite "Real American Heroes" and, while Snake Eyes was much too underused for me, he has been used several times before and can be left to his druthers this time. What I did really appreciate was to see Cobra Commander's history revealed as well as the (literal) face behind the mask.
All of this; and 25 of those vintage PSAs as just one of several special features? I had to order it! So now you know; "and knowing is half the battle. GI JOOOOOE!"

Superb GI Joe movie that represents the pinnacle of Joe storytelling (outside the original comics) that is the perfect blend of Sci Fi and earth based
military. Joe, Cobra, and beyond are represented and a good amount of screen time to bunches of characters makes for a perfect movie.
Writing like in this movie, and Transformers The Movie (the original one with Unicron and Galvatron, you know the good one) SIMPLY JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THIS DAY AND AGE ANYMORE!!! The writing proved that you could do a huge epic story with SCOPE (something writers cannot do anymore) and still make a movie that made sense and most of all.... ENTERTAINED!!!
Simply one of the best movies of all time, with great voice talent (Burgess Meredith, anyone?) and an epic tale.... make this movie a must see.....
too bad it's NOT AVAILABLE ANY LONGER ON DVD!!! I got my copy when it was first released on DVD.... too bad the morons in charge can't see that THIS is the real Joe movie, and not that 2009 Rise of Cobra bullcrap.....
5 stars, Simply perfect.... my highest recommendation....

This movie changed GI Joe after it was shown. I think the cartoon series would have lasted much longer if the movie had not come out.
