This book is funny, funny, funny-- and has tremendous heart to boot.
Kostroff relates scores of hilarious behind-the-scenes experiences (e.g., having a dresser who actually impedes the dressing process); pet peeves ( e.g., people who desecrate the English language); and vulnerable moments ( e.g., the some time loneliness of life on the road).
What's more, Kostroff is such a fine, observant writer and humorist, that he is able to convey his thoughts with an emotional precision that compels the reader to nod in recognition.
Kostroff's ascerbic wit and self-deprecating humor are matched by his generosity in letting us into his world--this world he spent so much of his life working to enter.
This book is for everyone who wants to laugh, be moved or just reminded that working toward a dream can really pay off-- and sometimes in ways different from what one expects.

I really enjoyed this anecdotal piece of creative nonfiction. I highly recommend it to David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell fans. Kostroff is witty, self-deprecating and anal about the conventions of English grammar. Love this guy. Whether you work in the theater or not, I think you'll enjoy this cleverly written book.

This is the real deal. Truly fascinating and entertaining. May be read as a fun behind-the-scenes adventure and also as a true account of what it is really like to be a touring working actor on the road. Fans of theater, SHOW BIZ, The Producers, Les Miz,Mel Brooks, comedy, etc. will go crazy. Simply said: Get it. Read it.

Michael Kostroff's charming style brings warmth and humor to every page of this consistently entertaining book -- surely every bit as entertaining as his stage performances must be. It is a unique diary of one man's journey across this varied land as much as it is a backstage pass. Theater lovers and armchair travelers alike will enjoy the ride.

Having read this book myself, and being in the business myself, I consider this a must-read for fellow actors. However, my friends who are NOT in the business enjoyed this book, simply for Michael's skill in telling a story with all the local color. He makes you feel like you're there with him! I highly recommend this book.
