The Revenge of the McNasty Brothers (Melvin Beederman, Superhero) Books

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun and easy to read
I just bought this book for my son (6y) and he has being asking for it every night. Its fun and easy to understand.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Another Super Installment for this Series!
The Revenge of the McNasty Brothers is the second book in the Melvin Beederman: Superhero series, which is shaping up to be a romping good series! In this installment, Melvin is settling into his tree house...he even discovers that he's got an interesting new roommate who enjoys some of his very favorite things (namely pretzels and a certain TV show) and he's developing a more in depth relationship with his sidekick (Candice Brinkwater). We find that there are MORE McNasty's, the brothers (Filthy and Grunge) have two equally nasty sisters (Mudball and Puke) who help them escape from prison...from there they make the inevitable decision to kidnap Candice and it's up to Melvin to save her from a rather devious bologna inspired trap! Will he be able to do it? You simply must read to find out!

Overall, The Revenge of the McNasty Brothers is every bit as amusing, entertaining as The Curse of the Bologna Sandwich! This series is sure to be a favorite among boys (6-10), but I also found that my 9 year old daughter loves this series and can hardly wait until she can read the next book in the series, so it will appeal to a mixed audience. It would also be a wonderful read aloud for younger kids (especially if you can pull off the narrator effect)! Trine manages to touch on important topics like doing homework before having fun (and fighting crime), he loves math (what self-respecting superhero wouldn't?), self-esteem, persevering through difficulty, bullying, creative problem solving, the importance of the perfect evil laugh (if you're an evil villain) and more...all the while making it hilariously funny! This is a great beginning reader book, for those making the transition to chapter books and the illustrations help to bring the story to life for readers still struggling to make the transition to books without pictures. I give it 4 stars and two thumbs up, we all loved it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Evil Family Reunion
Just when his life appears to have settled down a little and he's getting ahead of crime-fighting in Los Angeles, Melvin Beederman's headed for a collision with disaster! Not only is crime giving him a brief vacation, but he's just discovered he has a roommate in his superhero lair/tree house: a rat he names Hugo. Unfortunately, Melvin and Hugo barely get to meet when the McNasty Sisters (Mudball and Puke) tunnel into prison and free their brothers (the McNasty Brothers, Filthy and Grunge). Seeking revenge, the McNasty Brothers take Melvin's sidekick, Candace Brinkwater, prisoner and set a bologna-filled trap for the superhero. A six thousand-pound bologna trap! Will Melvin escape? Is the McNasty family reunion going to be the end of him? Will Hugo the rat eat Melvin out of house and home?

The Melvin Beederman series presents author Greg Trine's first books. Illustrator Rhode Montijo has also written and illustrated CLOUD BOY.

The same zany humor that was in the first volume returns to ride again in REVENGE OF THE MCNASTY BROTHERS. The plot gets a little larger this time. Not only is the McNasty family at least twice as large (and twice as stinky!) as readers were led to believe in the first book, but Candace's life at school gets filled with bullies who are tired of her stopping them from picking on other kids. The illustrations, dialogue and narrator comments are side-splitting. Despite its length, this is a book that can be devoured in a single sitting by an aggressive reader or an adult reading to small children. The illustrations are a hoot. The world may not be ready for Melvin Beederman, but it needs him!

This book is recommended to anyone who loves the idea of superheroes, and to parents who love to read fun books to their kids. Kids and parents who are looking for something slightly older than the Nate the Great books but just as fun will find the Melvin Beederman series a great experience.
