The Flintstones (Collector's Edition) DVD

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Can't review what you never receive
Never received ANYTHING from this seller. Will NEVER use them again and am seriously reconsidering ever using amazon again. No lie, we have friends in Hawaii; sent them a package regular mail on August 5 and they received our package (under 10 lbs) on August 14. We ordered this video/dvd on August 2- at this writing- Sept 3- HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING! I'm sure though that once this is posted, the "spin control" team at Amazon will have about 5 to 6 folks say they have "no problem" and this seller is "just great" - don't you believe it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - ...AND DON'T SPARE THE SPARE RIBS!!!!
Obviously I need to first address the 4000 pound brontosaurus in the room, regarding this adaptation of The Flintstones. Why was Rosie O'Donnel cast as Betty Rubble? She doesn't quite match the proportions of that sassy slender cartoon version, does she? Made no sense to me then, makes no sense to me now.

Still, gotta admit... I liked this one. This was another movie I waited a few years for as a kid, as it began production and then halted for some time, before finally getting it together in spring of '94. With help from the newly launched (in my town) twenty four hour Cartoon Network that spring, I was totally spun out on Hanna-Barbera that year. Good times. John Goodman was the hands down best choice for Fred Flintstone, and Elizabeth Perkins was a great Wilma too. The movie plays out like an extended live action cartoon. All of the elements are there, the foot mobile, the baby elephant vacuum cleaner, Freds twinkle toes bowling move, and Bam Bam kickin some cave butt with that giant saber-club. The special effects are a little bit prehistoric by todays standards, but you'll hardly notice. Rent this one whenever they have Rib-Sandwiches at your local McDonalds.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A 'Cute' Film
This is what you'd call a "cute" movie, the cuteness mainly being the funny takeoff on objects, such as regular household appliances, that you see in here caveman-era-style. Most of those are prehistorical creatures having to perform the tasks of cleaning, but they are clever and funny to watch. In fact, there are so many of them it's tough to catch all of them. It would take a number of viewing to fully appreciate all the visuals in here.

When I first saw this, I expected a really stupid movie. I had enjoyed but not been a big fan of the animated "Flintsones" series on TV, and thought this would be more of the same except with real actors. Actually, it was much better and had a surprisingly good cast for such a lightweight cartoon comedy.

I mean, who would expect a big star like Elizabeth Taylor to be in this movie? She had the funniest lines, too, I thought. Her put-downs of poor "Fred" (the rotund John Goodman is perfectly cast) included lines such as, "the only good thing you provide for my daughter is shade." This is quite an eclectic cast with the likes of Taylor, Goodman, Rick Moranis, Rosie O'Donnell, Elizabeth Perkins, Kyle MacLaughlan and Halle Berry.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another Childhood Favorite!!!
Ever since I was a kid, I've loved this movie, and watched it yesterday to refresh my memory! Even though it could be for kids, I forgot about the sexual tension between Fred Flintstone and Halle Berry's character. Fred lends Barney Rubble and his wife Betty money to adopt a kid named Bamm-Bamm. Barney pays Fred back by switching test scores, making Fred the new Vice President of Industrial Procurement at Slate & Co. Cliff Vandercave is planning to steal money from the company and blame Fred. After proving his innocence, Cliff kidnapped Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm. Can Fred and Barney save them in time? I highly recommend THE FLINTSTONES!!!
