Metz is an excellent writer, and for the most part Roswell High reflects her literary abilities. All of the books are humorous, serious, and intriguing. I especially appreiciate the contextual continuity between them. After buying books 1 & 2 from a store, I purchased books 3-5, and read them all in a night, the week before finals. Book four, seemed to me, to take a survey-course attitude toward the material at hand. Max's and, to some extent, Liz's reactions to Max's condition were vividly and subtly displayed, but the rest of the characters' responses were not expanded. The cliff-hanger ending was, had it been necessary to wait for the next book, something between excrusiating and annoying (because everyone knows that most series make it a point not to kill the main characters, its bad for readership, but there is still the "what if," x-file fourth-season-finale-feeling.) I do not believe that the aforementioned characteristics in anyway depreciate Metz' literary ability. I believe that the book's seemingly flat nature comes from the restrictions that come with writing in the young adult genre. In my estimation I think that metz should consider asking her publisher whether she or an equally brilliant writer could produce a spin-off Roswell series that would be more indepth and better suited to the broader science-fiction/fantasy audience. Overall, the book (as well as the series) is great. I would love to see this series spin-off, it's characters and plot-lines have an appeal that is ageless. I hope that in the future Roswell High will expand and be enjoyed by a broader audience. Metz' is a truly gifted author.

I read this book fast, cover to cover. Not skipping a page. I could not put it down. I felt so sorry for Liz, as she described watching Max die. Also when Liz found out about ankino, how Metz described the way Liz looked and talked. Just beautiful.

This was a really good book including all the other ones, although I do wonder about the long distance between the books coming out and I really would like to know why but still they are all great books in my opinion.

#4 "The Watcher" does not disappoint! Still packed with the same action and romance, the author does a great job in moving the story foward. I love the science fiction aspect of Michael, Isabel and Max having special powers to heal, see a person's aura and feel what another is feeling. They are truly a tight group who will do anything to help out there fellow friends. Even if it means risking their lives for them. And after introducing Ray (No. 3 the Seeker), the "father" type who comes in and starts to help the 3 learn more about what they can do with their powers and their home planet, we start to understand what their other world was about exactly as they are finding out. She digs deeper in each book of the series about the whole story and each character's backgrounds. The "Watcher" was definitely more powerful to me so far in this series, and I'm sure Ms. Metz will not disappoint with the rest! :)
