Collection 1) Photograph signed: "Best Wishes,/Johnny Carson". B/w, 7¾x10. Left margin neatly removed. Traces of file holes at 3 spots on left edge. Otherwise, fine condition. 2) Photograph inscribed and signed: "For/Margie/Peace!/Ed McMahon. B/w, 7x9. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso: "1976". Light corner creases. Otherwise, fine condition. 3) Photograph signed: "Best Wishes -/Skitch Henderson". B/w, 10x8. Captioned in lower margin. Slightly soiled in margins. Stray ink mark on verso shows through lightly in lower margin. Otherwise, fine condition. From 1962 to 1992, Johnny Carson was the king of late night television. The affable host entertained millions of viewers each night with his celebrity interviews and his comic monologues, often inspired by events of the day. JOHNNY CARSON (1925-2005), a radio host from the late 1940s, entered TV as a writer for Red Skelton (1951), making a promising comic debut when Skelton was injured backstage. After hosting the game show Who Do You Trust (1957-1962), became host of NBC's Tonight Show, pioneered by Steve Allen (1954-1957) and Jack Parr (1957-1962). Carson became a major national celebrity, winning 6 Emmys and many other awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1992) and the Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Award (1993). His farewell program, which revisited great moments from the show, was a national event.
