Think twice before buying from Oppo. Below is a review of an earlier model (non-Blu-Ray):
I purchased this DV-970HD unit about 2 years ago and in addition - two other units afterwards (2 are newer models). The other 2 units are working (1 I own and the other I gave as a present). For the 970HD, I have used it <10 times as it is not conected to my primary AV system (in the bedroom). However, this past weekend it quit operating and won't read any disks. Still learning the product. hooked up via hdmi 1.3. other gear-pioneer sc07, sonus faber 5.1, svs sub, samsung 58in plasma. using only bluray circuitry, bypassing pioneer. incredible picture on bluray discs, very fast startup, equal to or faster than playstation which we use in system to compare. sound quality and picture superior to playstation. basic use very simple. again still learning. have had for about 30 days. love the upsampling capability,standard movies are amazing as well. build quality ... Sound packaging materials and layout, easy setup, networking is great just turn on the player and it will search for upgrades, remote can be sluggish in response, stopping the player by accident instead of pausing makes you return to the beginning of a movie, USB was great for a memory stick but it doesn't see images on my Canon S5 (maybe it shouldn't since it is not really a drive), photos could look better but that is just the resolution settings I'm sure, music CD's play great but I can't figuire ... We just recently purchased an Oppo BDP-83 and the unit perfoms excellent, very fast loading, lively and vibrand picture and
very good audio. We can only recommend this player to all Videophiles out there looking for quality and value.
