I liked this item, while I had it, UNTILL I found a bunch of my regular DVD's that are only a year-ish old that would not play. updated the firmware made no diference so took it back to the store for a sony that actually works

Like many people I never write reviews on products i buy. However the bdp1600 is such a piece of junk I feel it is my duty to warn people. This product worked fine for a couple days until I upgraded the firmware. I did not read all the bad reviews on the firmware before i downloaded. Since then this thing is absolutely useless. I've owned this product for about 2 weeks now and I'm about to return it. I own a Samsung LNT-4671F LCD TV and this Blu-Ray Player. I also updated the firmware to 2.5.
Pros:
1) Amazing upscaling for regular DVD's (only when it works). 9/10 times, I'd get some white artifacts flashing every 2-5 seconds.

I got the player last week, connected it to the internet via cable. It discovers that there is a firmware upgrade after communicating with the mothership and asks if I want to upgrade. If you say no, the same screen
comes up at the next power on. I gave up and upgraded the firmware. Now there is blockbuster and youtube on the selections (who cares? all I need is netflix that's the reason I purchased this model).

I purchased this product on 5/09 it stopped working on 11/09 and I thought I was under manufacturer warranty , after calling Samsung they told me that the warranty on labor and parts expires after 3 mths and that I have to take it to a local repair guy mind you I paid full price 250$ from 6th avenue electronics store.I will never buy a samsung product again, I never had a problem with Sony.
