Product Description: A young war-widow with a small son meets a stranger in a toy store which sets the stage for a spirited competition for the ladys affections. Studio: Turner Hm Entertainm Release Date: 11/11/2008 Starring: Robert Mitchum Wendell Corey Run time: 87 minutes Rating: Nr
Amazon.com: One of the lesser holiday movies, this 1949 comedy stars Janet Leigh as a war widow who can't afford to buy her son a toy train for Christmas. A veteran (Robert Mitchum) who happens to be standing by in a department store overhears her plight and offers to purchase the toy, thus setting into motion a series of funny complications. Wendell Corey plays Leigh's suspicious, condescending boyfriend, whose jealousy compounds Mitchum's problems, and Harry Morgan is very good as a night-court judge trying to make sense of everything that happens. The movie didn't do so well at the box office at the time of its release, but it has gained an affectionate fan base over the years. Don't expect Miracle on 34th Street, but as a spirited lark for Yuletide, this is a lot of fun. --Tom Keogh

Undiscovered by most, but luckily discovered by me this Christmas. I love old movies for their glimpse back in time, the clothes, the way they talked, the integrity that people tried to live by. While some old movies have bland plots that don't keep my interest, this did because of the depth of the screenwriting and insight into what's important in life. I'll watch this again year after year!

We had been waiting for several years for the DVD Holiday Affair to be released. We were so happy to get it.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I couldn't get into this movie. I love Christmas movies and movies from this era but this movie didn't click with me. The acting isn't bad, but the suiters for our heroine's hand didn't seem convincing and the son, Timmy, just seemed squeaky and annoying.
If you want a great Christmas movie from the 40's, try Christmas in Connecticut! My whole family loves that movie!

Ostensibly this is marketed as a holiday film but it's appeal is for all seasons. How rare a romantic film involving a love triangle where all the principals are full-blooded characters. We naturally root for the Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh characters to connect but we have more than a dollop of sympathy for Wendell Corey. Some comic elements but the film smacks of romantic drama. As a bonus Harry Morgan has a terrific bit as a harried police lieutenant. Highly recommended. Torn between ... Read More

I love this version. There is one before it, and one after it, but this is the best.
