Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: He is America's No. 1 TV dad. Bill Cosby reigns supreme as one of the great entertainers of our time. These days, he's got a new act and not everyone's in love with it. It's a campaign to teach African-American parents and kids from lower income neighborhoods about personal responsibility. The message is not easy to take, and it's given without a sugarcoating. It's tough talk and ABC News brings viewers a rare and exclusive look behind the scenes of one of Cosby's town meetings. It's an interesting and provocative side of Bill Cosby you've probably never seen before. When Bill Cosby first chastised low-income parents for failing their children, many were outraged. It created heated debate in the African-American community. ABC News went behind the scenes with Cosby to one of his town meetings -- he calls them "call outs" -- in St. Louis. Bill Cosby's "call outs" are heavily orchestrated events. His group picks a city, finds a venue for the event, hands out tickets to members of the community and they all gather in a big auditorium. A local cable station is contacted and given the opportunity to shoot the event -- on the condition they'll air it in its entirety. No editing. There's a panel on the stage -- people with incredible personal stories of hardship, sacrifice and courage -- who tell those stories and field questions from the audience. At the center of it all is Bill Cosby. He leads off the discussion with humor and then folds in the hard stuff. It's a very different kind of show for Cosby, and it takes place against the backdrop of questions about his own personal conduct. ABC News sat down for some frank conversations with him. You'll see a side of Cosby you never get to see. It's a remarkable portrait of an adored TV personality giving back to his community in a most unorthodox way.
