Product Description: NOTE: This DVD is published under license from Video Yesteryear - Plain Case - NO ARTWORK
CBS-TV net. "The Velvet Alley" by ROD SERLING. With ART CARNEY, JACK KLUGMAN, LESLIE NIELSEN, KATHERINE BARD, BONITA GRANVILLE, ALEXANDER SCOURBY. Sponsored by Kimberly-Clark, Gas Association. No wonder Rod Serling won all those Emmy awards! The man really knew how to write a tight, emotional, involving drama. Add an all-star cast and you have television entertainment that was truly from the "Golden Age." A struggling writer, who can barely keep up with the payments on his typewriter, has earned nothing but rejection slips. His friend and agent Max finally gets his script sold to a Hollywood TV series. Fame and fortune follow shortly thereafter, but so does a break with his only friend, a separation from his wife and a long absence from his father. The story is so well written, that its fascinating to watch even when you know whats coming. Note the lavish sets, outdoors Brooklyn in a snowstorm, a huge TV studio, a California mansion with a swimming pool. Playhouse 90 certainly could do it right. Also keep your eye open for a young BURT REYNOLDS, two years before his first film. Recommended. 88 minutes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is not the best visual quality tape (old tape, grainy) but what can be expected for a movie that is over 50 years old and not digitally remastered.
However it is a wonderful look at one of Rod Serlings best and semi-biographical ... Read More

The Velvet Valley - Plahouse 90 (01/22/1959)
First up - this is The Velvet Alley (NOT The Velvet Valley !!!)
If you buy this, you undoubtedly want to get your hands on a classic piece of very rare Rod Serling - so on that basis I'm not going to comment on the content save as to say the picture and audio quality are very shaky indeed - but this is in part to be expected for such a rarity. But this product is on Amazon, and isn't especially cheap - so you'd have certain expectations about ... Read More
