Product Description: ****Import from South Korea...Sound in English/Subtitles Korean, OFF..****..Summary---Richard Chamberlain stars in this lavishly appointed adaptation of the classic Alexandre Dumas adventure story. When Count Edmond Dantes (Richard Chamberlain) is stripped of his wealth and sent to prison for crimes he did not commit, he swears to get revenge against those who wronged him. With the help of Abbe (Trevor Howard), a fellow prisoner, the Count escapes and sets forth to see that justice is done. The supporting cast includes Tony Curtis as Mondego, Louis Jourdan as De Villefort, and Donald Pleasance as Danglars. This seventh of eight film versions of The Count of Monte Cristo was produced for American television but received a theatrical release in Europe

I have always enjoyed this version with Richard Chamberlain's remarkable renditon of the part of the Count. The rest the well known cast do a fine job as well being instrumental in conveying either good or evil. The costumes are quite good along with the music in setting the feel of the period. If you enjoy this you may want to catch the latest version with James Caviezel since it is different enough to make it worth seeing. I happen to like both versions. Good quality DVD with good replayability. ... Read More

This 1975 made for tv movie is excellent- a must see with richard chamberlain and kate nelligan- while the mens hairpieces are bad- they look cheap- since it was made for tv, i assume the budget was tight-- Chamberlain is great- as is Nelligan and tony curtis [birth name -bernard schwartz]Taryn Power [daughter of tyrone power ] is in it and was engaged to marry richard chamberlain after the movie finished [they never married and years later he "outed ' himself, now lives with his boyfriend]- the story ... The Count of Monte-Cristo (Der Graf von Monte Christo)
Richard Chamberlain's version, in my opinion, is the best version. And this collector's item is out of print in most places. So, it would be wise to get it through [...] while you can.
A great story of a man falsely accused of being a traitor, imprisoned for many years in an island prison. But then, after meeting a priest inside the prison and being tutored by him, and after learning of those who betrayed him, he escapes and goes hunting ... Read More

I was quite surprised at how faithful this film is to the book: the Count is this version is very human and evolves through the course of the story. While many details are left out because of time limits, it is wonderfully non-Hollywood, especially the anti-climactic ending. Chamberlain does an excellent job as the Count, who moves from naivete to a bitter search for vengence to a need for redemption, all believably. Tony Curtis is a bit weak, though the other conspiratorial adversaries are very good, ... Read More

Outstanding movie; Richard Chamberlain is at his best; follows the book but with greater attention to detail; the American accents are somewhat harsh at times but forgiveable in the overall
