I first saw this film when it was originally released in 1955. I was 6 years old. It made a deep impression on me and inspired an interest in Greek mythology which public school teachers subsequently discouraged. While it has been at least 20 years since my last viewing of this film, I have always found it to be a satisfying, if superficial, synopsis of the original story by Homer (which I have read twice). It was even more satisfying than the mini series remake of the 1990s that appeared on TV.
