One of the most popular franchises in anime history, Dragon Ball began in 1984 as a manga by Akira Toriyama in Shonen Jump. Dragon Ball Z (1989), the second TV adaptation, is the most beloved: it ran for 291 episodes--more than Dragon Ball (1986) and Dragon Ball GT (1996) combined. Over the years, the program has introduced countless boys to the world of Japanese animation. The first season re-introduces the main characters and sets up a new threat. Goku learns he's not an Earthling, but a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta. Only three other Saiyans survive, all of them extremely powerful and destructive. Goku destroys Raditz with the help of Piccolo, but dies in the process. He spends much of the season training in the Other World with King Kai. Piccolo takes over training Goku's son Gohan, anticipating he will have to face the remaining Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta. These episodes set the pattern for the combination of martial arts training, fantasy-battles and slapstick comedy that make the series so popular. The storyline rambles, with lots of digressions, repeats, and false endings--none of which bother the fans. Although Dragon Ball Z has been released previously in the US, Funimation pulled out all the stops for this edition. The entire series has been remastered from the original prints, and the Japanese language track is included for the first time. I HAD RESENTLY BOUGHT THIS ITEM, AND COME TO FIND OUT DISK 3 WAS THE WRONG ONE INSERTED IN THE BOX. INSTEAD IT WAS REPLACED WITH SEASON 2'S DISK 3. BAD BUSINESS MAN. I GOT IT FROM THE SELLER JON ALLEN (ACTOR),ET AL

This boxset gives you incredible value for the amount of episodes. Some people don't like this set because of the widescreen, but I got used to it after a while. It also allowed me to see the episodes in Japanese for the first time, so if you're looking for the original translation this is for you.

Dragon Ball Z is the one greatest anime series ever created. With its action-packed universe and compelling storylines, Akira Toriyama's magnum opus has never failed to please. This is the first season set FUNimation has released of the series.

This is by far the cheapest you will find this product online and in-store. I have not had any problems with the aspect ratio. I don't have lines/bars on the bottom and top of the screen. I have watched the show on a macbook pro and 42" hdtv and it looks fine. Happy I bought it and didn't listen to the more negative reviews!

Well first of the only little prob is that they chaged the Vegeta voice and changed the over 9000 sence but it doesn't really bother me (but i did always love how vegeta say's that on the TV version).
But overall this is a very good buy Over in the US and UK.
Again like in my other review i would higly recomend this to any Dragonball Z fan or someone who's just getting into action anima.
