Product Description:
22 year-old S bastien (Georges Babluani) leads an impoverished life constantly struggling to support his immigrant family. While repairing the roof of a neighbor s house he overhears a conversation about a forthcoming package which promised to make the household rich. Sensing the opportunity of a lifetime S bastien intercepts the package which contains a series of veiled instructions. Following the cryptic clues he assumes a false identity and manages to slip through the grasp of the encroaching police as he ventures deeper towards the unknown. The closer he gets to his destination the less he understands. Ultimately he comes face to face with a disreputable ring of clandestine gamblers placing bets on a depraved game of chance where the spoils are unimaginable millions and the losses are counted in lives. I didn't know anything about this movie other than what was written on the DVD case (and I wasn't sure about calling it an "existential thriller"), but was pleasantly surprised. It was filmed in black and white and is subtitled, if that matters to you (it didn't to me).
The trailers give you an idea of what the movie is about, but I think it's better if you watch the movie unfold without knowing anything about it.

13/Tzameti is bit of a shaggy dog story but, once it gets past the awkward first half hour, one that plays out surprisingly well considering its focussing on one character saps it of any real suspense because we know if anything happens to him, the movie is over. The '13 Tzameti' viewing experience is akin to driving by a massive wreck on the highway. You shouldn't look. You do anyway.
When Georgian immigrant Sébastien (George Babluani) takes a mysterious ticket and hotel reservation intended for someone else (to say who is to probably give away too much), he takes viewers headlong into an enterprise that - when finally and acutely revealed - brings a mouthful of revulsion. As 13 tzameti unfolds, the viewer is pulled further and further into this incredibly dark world where your life is in the hands of the person next to you. Incredibly well done and definitely worth watching

13 Tzameti, to be very plainly summed up is a large game of russian roulette with a twist. As simple as the plot sounds, this was still a very interesting movie.
