Editorial Review:
Product Description: De La Soul pulls together a selection of never heard cuts from the De La vault for "Impossible Mission", a tight assemblage of material that will keep De La Soul fans everywhere happy until their brand new record hits in '07. Narrated by De La themselves, Posdnuos, Trugoy, and Maseo explain what "Buhloone Mindstate" they were in when they recorded each track. De La Soul's debut album, "3 Feet High and Rising" (1989), was an instant smash that saw the group labeled as "hippies" due to the message of peace and love. They quickly became prominent members of the Zulu Nation, along with A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, Queen Latifah, The Jungle Brothers and others. They were also members of the famed Native Tongues Posse and mentioned the group often in their music. "Me, Myself and I" became a huge hit, further cementing the group's popularity. De La's follow-up albums, "De La Soul Is Dead" (1991), "Buhloone Mindstate" (1993), "Stakes Is High" (1996), "AOI: Mosaic Thump" (2000), "AOI: Bionix" (2001), and "The Grind Date" (2004) were all critically-acclaimed releases. In 2006 we get yet another installment of the De La genius with their new release, "Impossible Mission". Standout cuts on "Impossible Mission" include "Live @ The Dugout '87," "Voodoo Circus," "Friends," and the ultra funky "You Got It." A bonus treat includes a live performance in Tokyo, Japan. Ever since their last album, "The Grind Date", was released, fans have been waiting for more from the trio from Amityville, Long Island. With production from the likes of Oh No (Murs, LMNO), Geology (Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, Bahamadia), Supa Dave West (Phife Dawg, Reflection Eternal, Me'Shell NdegeOcello), and De La Soul themselves, this album should definitely wet their appetites.

Heads of real hip-hop understand how hard it is to stay at the top of the game. Well, these cats from the LI have been on top of things since "Plug Tunin'." reinventing themselves with each new release. This mixtape is no exception. Immediate standouts are "Live at the Dugout '87" (track is ill) "Respect" and "Freedom Train"; though the whole CD is bangin'. Even the previously unreleased tracks kick your mentals back to that old De La Sound that still sounds good today. This group will go down ... Read More

One of the best Hip-Hop albums to come out in '06. De La remains one of rap's MOST consistent, even with the stuff that didn't make some of their previous albums. A MUST have for any De La fan.

It should be noted that this is a mixtape released to drum up interest in de la's next album. As such, I expect less of this release than a full length album. That said, this is a nice release. There's a good amount of older unreleased stuff, including "Just Havin' a Ball" (similar instrumental track can be heard on A Tribe Called Quest's first album and the Gravediggaz first album), and "Relax" (produced by the late J Dilla). Most of the newer stuff is good too. I especially like "You Got It". ... Read More

I had no idea this was released until I trolled through Amazon as I often do, just CHECKING to see if any of my favourite artists have released anything I missed. I was curious purchasing this, not really knowing what to expect, but I'm very glad I have this. There's no De La Soul fan that can be without IMPOSSIBLE: MISSION.
The album is a change of pace to what has come before, it almost plays like an anniversary album (which it might be, maybe from when the three Plug's got together?). ... Read More

I was walking through the music store when I saw this and thought: Are you kidding me?! A new De La album came out and I missed it?! I bought this immediately and let me tell you, it is UNBELIEVABLE. De La Soul is better than ever and the new cuts on this album are the best they've done. Tell all the hip hop fans you know to buy this CD and enjoy. Thank you De La Soul for continuing to put out this kind of music. You guys are amazing and always have been.
