  • Interview (HD, 5 minutes) - Basically a coda to the picture-in-picture track (see HD Exclusives below), Bluth, Goldman and Dyer give a wider overview of 'Space Ace's reception, it's place in the arcade animation trilogy shared with the 'Dragon's Lair' games, and how they still receive mail about Ace from fans
  • Demonstration Reel (HD, 3 minutes) - a restoration demonstration, using split-screen to compare the new Blu-ray remaster with past video releases
  • Previews - video trailers for 'Space Ace,' 'Dragon's Lair,' and the upcoming (but as yet unscheduled) 'Dragon's Lair II - Time Warp.'
  • Video Commentary (HD) - a picture-in-picture interview with Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, and Rick Dyer, who appear together in a PIP box in the top right corner. They narrate the complete 24-minute game as if it was a stand-alone short film (no interruptions for gameplay, etc.) They cover the gestation of the project as an immediate spin-off from 'Dragon's Lair,' but with the emphasis on upping the pace and speed of the game, as well as the voice talent, animation, and eventual success of the game

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Definitive Space Ace Conversion!!! They got it right this time!!!
To say that I am a Space Ace fan is an understatement. Back in the 80s, I don't know how many quarters I spent trying to discover the correct routes for every sequence (the only games I spent more money on was probably the first few versions of Street Fighter II). I became someone who can consistently complete the game on one quarter (on Cadet level anyway). Everytime I played at the local arcade, I always drew a crowd watching as I took command of Ace to rescue the fair Kimberly. Space Ace certainly ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not perfect, but well worth buying
A+ for the game itself, it's an arcade classic from the 1980s and IMO the best of the 3 Bluth games.

A+ too for the transfer, the visuals and sound are great.

I thought using the Blu-Ray remote to play the game vs. a joystick or computer keyboard would be annoying, but it's not too bad. Game play is very faithful to the arcade experience I remember from when I was a kid.

The "attract mode" sequence, which has some nice animation, is included. But it's a bit hard to ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Far too imperfect for the money.
It is amazing that in this day and age Digital Leisure has failed to perfect this game on Blu-ray. While reasonably fun, it still has enough glitches to break it. When playing "ACE" difficulty, for example, the cut scene with Dexter in the space ship with Kimberly on the monitor pleading, "Get me out of here!", is missing. Did they really think fans of the game wouldn't notice something like this?

Using the PS3, with the latest firmware, there are glitches a-plenty, and it is too bad. The best ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - space ace the bomb
Space Ace [Blu-ray]

Incredible conversion and bug free despite some reviews. check sound output is linear on your PS3 and enjoy the 5.1 surround mix on your biggest 1080p screen.

Cannot wait for DL2 to go on blu-ray as Dig Leisure have really gone the extra mile in perfecting this product. Obviously there is no future plan to convert DL3 as that product was a severe embarrasment of the past and was nothing more than a pathetic recording of somebody playing DL3D.

But as ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - FYI: Worked on my PS3
This game worked smoothly on my 60GB PS3 (my firmware is also up to date). Several months ago I rented the Dragon's Lair bluray from netflix and that did not work (it repeatedly froze during game play). I initially thought the disc was defective so I requested another Dragon's Lair disc and that one froze too. This was NOT the case with Space Ace, which worked perfectly. Pehaps Sony has updated its firmware and fixed the problem since the time I played Dragon's Lair. It will be interesting to see if Dragon's ... Read More
