There are many great Superhero films but none can stand up to this film. All other films are imitations. Many believed this film could not be done but the Salkinds, Donner & Reeve prooved them wrong! Out of all the Superman films this one remains the most loved.

The first, and arguablly the best, of the Christopher Reeve films. Richard Donner brings heart to what could've been, from what I've learned, a satire film. The main cast is outstanding: Reeve as the indestructible but endearing Man of Steel, Gene Hackman is funny and diabolical as Lex Luthor, Marlon Brando as the wise Jor-El and Margot Kidder is just fiesty as Lois Lane. Okay, here is the question: is SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE worth a four-DVD set?
A resounding YES!
The only previous edition of this movie was as a flip-it-over DVD issued in 2001. That one contained the "Director's Cut", eight minutes longer than the original theatrical version, along with commentary from Director Richard Donner and Screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz (who did a mountain of work on the screenplay and for his trouble was credited as "Creative Consultant"). I am a huge fan of Superman - The Movie. But I must admit, this DVD is a huge rip- off.
If you don't care about having the Original Theatrical Version (I don't), and one or two new featurettes (both of which re-iterate material from the 2000 DVD Version), then this is a rip- off (especially at $29.99).
The cartoons are good to have, but you can buy them much cheaper elsewhere if you're really interested in them.
