A previously unreleased duet with Johnny Cash is among the special tracks to be found on the Waylon Jennings boxed set "Nashville Rebel," due Sept. 26th via RLG Nashville/Legacy.
"The Greatest Cowboy of Them All" was recorded in 1978, the same year the late Jennings' duet with Willie Nelson, "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys," spent four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's country chart.
Beyond such hits as "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way," "Good Hearted Woman," "I Ain't Living Long Like This," "Highwayman" and "Rose in Paradise," the four-disc collection includes two early period tracks that have never been released in the U.S.: "It's Sure Been Fun" and "People in Dallas Got Hair."
"Nashville Rebel" was created in tandem with Jennings' widow Jessi Colter and their son Shooter Jennings. Liner notes were penned by Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye and country historian Rich Kienzle.

Well, since other scholars/reviewers have already re-written Waylon's history, instead of reviewing the CD set, I will just say, this is the best total collection of his work I've run across. I would have given it a Five, except there are still some fine old songs missing, yet some songs were included on this set that never made the top 100. Like a few with Jessie. This box set contains an excellent collection of songs that span the career of one of the legends of country music, Waylon Jennings. A must-have for any Waylon fan, and a refreshing break from so many of the cookie-cutter formula songs on contemporary country radio stations. Instead of getting a greatest hits album with only a few of the many great songs of his, get this, you'll be glad you did.

I bought this collection for my husband, he was very happy to receive it. We love to listen to all Waylon's songs, great product, great price!

My wife got me a used copy for Christmas and so far I've really enjoyed it. I don't consider myself an expert in Country/Western or Outlaw Country, but this compilation was a very enjoyable introduction for me. For longtime fans with an expansive knowledge of Waymore's catalogue, there might be some missing tracks. For anyone else, this is a great buy.
