Family Affair was a popular situation comedy and a regular top 20 hit show produced by Don Fedderson Productions for CBS-TV during its five-year run from 1966-71.Brian Keith stars as bachelor Bill Davis a highly-paid engineering consultant who lives in a posh Manhattan apartment with his proper English manservant Mr. Giles French (Sebastian Cabot). Davis carefree existence is turned upside down when his brother and sister-in-law die suddenly in a tragic plane accident leaving their three children orphaned. Season 2 continued where Season 1 left off and in the process, raised the bar for quality. Season 2 finished at number 5 in the TV ratings for the 1967/1968 season and was nominated for an Emmy award in the best Comedy Series category. This is really good when you consider the four shows that finished higher in the ratings: Gunsmoke, The Lucy Show, Gomer Pyle, and Andy Griffith (all of which are considered classics). I like it very much because it brings up memory from my childhood when I saw these episodes on tv. I recommend it to everyone as myself that adores the fab 60ties lifestyle in clothing and interior design.

This is a wonderful show to watch with your family! MPI has produced a box set that has great sound and picture quality, as well as a nice "extra" featuring Kathy Garver. Best of all, these episodes are uncut, just the way I remember watching them as a child. Thanks for giving me a chance to relive some great memories, MPI!

Season 2 was when the series really hit its stride. Bill Davis (Brian Keith) and his British gentleman's gentleman Mr. French (Sebastian Cabot) care for Bill's nieces Cissy and Buffy, and also nephew Jody.
The series is a situation comedy with the emphasis on "situation". But there are also poignant moments which never seem forced. The interaction among the characters always rings true. And it shows that a family does not have to conform to the traditional norms of what a regular family ... Read More
