This is an extremely durable puzzle with pieces that fit well, but not too tightly, into their places - providing an excellent challenge for my one-year-old.

I bought this for my niece's 1st birhday and she likes it- especially the big knobs which allow her to fit the piece in properly- she had other puzzles but didn't have the dexterity to get them into place, with this toy she can fit them into the spot much easier.

We have had this toy for more than a year and still looks very good (just a few scratches). I bought it when my daughter was 8 months old. She learned to name the animals very quickly and loved to play with it even though she couldn't put the pieces back.
If this is too difficult for your child, try the geometric shapes (Melissa and Doug) - they're much easier. I think that this puzzle is the next step after the shapes.

I have a 2 year old son with Down syndrome. This puzzle is fantastic for him. The knobs are easy for him to grasp. The puzzle is very durable. He bangs the pieces together and bangs them on the puzzle board. The knobs are still secure and the pieces are not broken or chipped. This puzzle is a great learning tool for him. I bought this puzzle for my 16 month old. It's really cute and well made but the pieces are hard to put in. They have to be lined up EXACTLY in order to fit, which is something he has a hard time with. Overall it's a decent product.
