A few months back I admitted to not really being a believer in Jneiro Jarel. This despite the fact that a gang of people whose opinions I respect co-sign for him. I made the argument that he was an incredible producer and a sub-par lyricist. On his solo album that came out earlier this year, the latter drug down the former with horrendous results. I don't know if I can claim credit for this, but I'm glad to announce that this is an instrumental album... and it's incredible.

In fact calling this hip-hop is a misnomer. Rather this is mostly unimaginative downtempo electronica with the very occasional vocal track. The most intelligent thing actually said is "I've been making beats since 1992". Well if that's the case Dr. Who Dat is one mediocre guy. The beats are typical and most barely rise to the level of mildy interesting. At best. If you haven't heard of Jneiro Jarel (Dr. Who Dat?) you've now somehow stumbled onto a world of soulful/Jazzy new school of hip-hop.
I was very impressed with previous release "Three Piece puaazle" mostly because it wasn't as predictable as i thought it might be, quite the opposite jneiro's composition of those songs and few instrumentals kinda opened layers of sound i didnt know existed. It was a psychedelic (at times experimental) journey into hip-hop that kept me intrigued and relaxed.

Jneiro Jarel is another force to be reckoned with, from his gracious first release right down to his last effort "Three Piece Puzzle" which is an absolute must have hiphop / experimental album, he has a style similar to Jay Dee (r.i.p) whom Jneiro has often said that he regrets not ever getting to work on a project with him, the album is just laced with jazz/atmospheric soul and much more, crisp drum kicks and that typical snare crack sound we all associate his sound with not to mention lovely earthy ...
