Product Description:
American movie icon James Stewart portrays one of J. Edgar Hoover's finest and Vera Miles co-stars as his steadfast wife in this salute to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The colorful career of Agent Chip Hardesty (Stewart) covers 1924 to the late '50s. Along the way he tangles with everything from the Ku Klux Klan to a bomber who commits mass murder for insurance money. His fiercest exploits come in the '30s when he stares down a gun barrel at Baby Face Nelson Pretty Boy Floyd Machine Gun Kelly Ma Barker and John Dillinger. From two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Don Whitehead's bestseller and directed by veteran Hollywood hitmaker Mervyn LeRoy The FBI Story is your rat-a-tat ticket to the inside story.Running Time: 149 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA UPC: 012569816138 Manufacturer No: 81613

Amazon.com:
Approved by J. Edgar Hoover himself, this idealized telling of the FBI's origins spans the years between Hoover's appointment in the '20s and the Red Scare of the mid-'50s. Beginning with an investigation that showcases the talent and resources available to the FBI, dedicated agent Chip Hardesty (Jimmy Stewart) tells new recruits how the agency was streamlined into a professional crime-fighting organization. Using his personal life story as a backdrop, Hardesty takes the new men (and the viewer) through cases involving gangsters, land grabs, and Communist spies. Vera Miles plays Hardesty's dedicated wife, while Murray Hamilton helps out as gung-ho fellow agent Sam Crandall. Lots of pro-Hoover PR and propaganda, but it never gets in the way of the action or family drama. Interestingly, the history of the Hardesty family is almost as good as the history of the agency. --Mark Savary

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The FBI Story
I have been looking for the FBI story for a long time and have until now been unable to find it. Amazon had it so I ordered it from them. I receive it within 2 weeks and being on the other side of the world was something I thought was great. It is I believe one of James Stewart's best movies and I have already watched it twice. Thank you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Unintended Comedy/Propoganda Puff Ever
"The FBI Story" is hands down the funniest straight-laced drama ever made, and one of the greatest '50s pro-government propoganda tools to boot. Made by a scared Hollywood, the film is a white wash of the FBI and J. Edgar Hoover's history. Case in point: Hoover is shown from behind as a strikingly tall invidual with broad shoulders. In fact, he was not. The FBI is shown as a great supporter of Civil Rights and fighting the KKK. In fact, they did every thing in their power to destory MLK Jr. and anyone ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great movie
Great Jimmy Stewart movie. A very conservative take on the FBI, but for all you liberals out there, just remember it's a MOVIE.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Outstanding
For a look at what the FBI was at the beginning and how it has developed in one of the best crime fighting organizatios there is...you must watch this film!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The true story of how the Federal Bureau of Investigation was created.
James Stewart stars and narrates as Federal agent John Michael "Chip" Hardesty. I love Stewart's narration, especially his trademark wry humor, like "This isn't very romantic kissing in the murder section". Follow him as he apprehends the gangsters of the 20's and 30's, such as Alvin Karpis, Ma Barker, and Machine Gun Kelly all the way up until the Communists of the 50's. Some see this film as purely propoganda, and others as too much about Hardesty's private life. Personally, I see it as the birth of ... Read More
