The Fullmetal Alchemist theatrical feature, The Conqueror of Shamballa, takes place two years after the last episode of the popular broadcast series. Edward Elric has been transported to Earth and is living in Weimar-era Munich with Alphonse Heiderich, a young engineer who reminds him of Al. This Alphonse is working for the Thule Society, a group of Aryan fanatics who hope to cross dimensions to the world they call Shambala and acquire weapons that will ensure a German victory in the next war. Back in the world where the broadcast series took place, a restored Alphonse Elric searches for a way to bring Ed back. A combination of science and alchemy finally reunites the brothers--with unexpected consequences. Although the film is an exciting adventure that includes many of the familiar characters, viewers who haven't watched the TV series may have trouble sorting out who's who and what's where. Sadly, The Conqueror of Shamballa marks the end of director Seiji Mizushima's and screenwriter Shou Aikawa's work with the Elric brothers: together, they preserved the essence of Hiromu Arakawa's winning characters while adapting them to a new medium. Arakawa is continuing the manga, so fans may one day see further animated adventures of Ed and Al.(Rated PG: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing ending to the series
Wow, this was an amazing conclusion to the astronomical series. I'll stop using big words now =) Anyway, If you've seen the series, you definitely have to get this. And for 30 dollars for a NEW one (at least right now), I would get the special edition. You get nice art card things (that are not attached to the booklet, so I framed them and are scattered in my room) and there's a small booklet that has sketches of the characters, and there's just so much more stuff! Why are you still reading ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A pretty good ending for a great series
Since several people follow my anime reviews often. I know some haven't seen the series. So for those purposes, I will not reveal any of the story. Those who seen the series already know the events concerning the Philosophers Stone and the fate of the brothers. This movie picks up after the ordeal and ties up loose ends.

Right off the back. Don't expect the same greatness from the series. Everything that made the series great, gets bumped down some. This movie is meant to finish everything. ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Interesting continuation
This feature is a good way to get back in touch with the characters that made the FMA series amazing. It's interesting to see how they adapt to their changed lives. The Nazi storyline was very Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but still entertaining. Overall, this was a satisfactory follow-up, with the only real negatives being that the whole story felt extremely rushed, while some sequences dragged on.
