Product Description: Bogart goes to visit the widow and father of an old war buddy in a Florida island hotel and finds that an infamous gangster has moved in and taken over the place. Genre: Feature Film-Drama Rating: NR Release Date: 25-JUL-2006 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com essential video: John Huston (The Maltese Falcon) directed this smart thriller about a gangster (Edward G. Robinson) who holds a number of people hostage in a hotel in the Florida Keys during a tropical storm. Humphrey Bogart is the returning war veteran who takes on the villains, and Lauren Bacall is on hand as one of the people on the wrong end of Robinson's gun. Somewhat similar in tone to Howard Hawks's To Have and Have Not (which also featured Bogart and Bacall), this moody movie captures a certain despair offset by the bond between individuals united by common purpose. Claire Trevor won an Academy Award for her part as Robinson's alcoholic girlfriend. --Tom Keogh

"Key Largo", starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, and Edward Robinson is an intense movie with the setting in a hotel in Key Largo FL during a hurricane. Robinson the mobster and his henchmen hold Bogart, Bacall, and Bacall's father-in-law at gunpoint during the storm. There are intense moments during the storm when Robinson threatens to shoot anyone who tries to cross him.
After the storm, Robinson and his men try to take a boat to Cuba and escape the law. Throughout the movie ... Read More

I am not a Bogie fan but this one is pretty good. Interesting story with a few twists and a lot of great 40s stars doing good work. I think this film is worth the price just to see Claire Trevor as the alcoholic girlfriend of the bad guy, played to the hilt by Eddie G Robinson, Trevor is fantastic and sad and pathetic and heroic. She won an Oscar for this role and it was deserved.

Naturally the entire movie is terrific and John Huston was one heck of a director. But the outstanding performance in the movie is Edward G Robinson. Here he is at his malevolent, gangster best. I would love to know if his performance was part Huston or all Robinson because it's masterful. As gangster on the run Johnny Rocco ( a typical 30's and 40's movie mobster name), Robinson portrays him as rage barely under control, eyes flashing, and ready to lash out at the slightest provocation. The chemistry ... Read More

John Huston's "Key Largo" reunites him with his "Maltese Falcon" star Humphrey Bogart, and he assembles a star cast for this movie as well, in addition to Bogart: Lauren Bacall (Humphrey Bogart's real-life wife, and fresh off their successful pairings in "To Have And Have Not" & "The Big Sleep"), Edward G. Robinson ("Double Indemnity"), Claire Trevor and Lionel Barrymore (Mr. Potter in the Frank Capra classic "It's A Wonderful Life"). The score was written by the Academy Award winning composer of "Gone ... Read More

Awesome film. Obviously inspired by films like "Casablanca", Bogey is an amoral man stuck in a dangerous setting. The cast is great, but Lauren Bacall really doesn't get much to do in this. The climax really had me on the edge of my seats. Classic suspense and clever plot twists. Anyone can enjoy this one.
