Editorial Review:
Product Description: Australia released, PAL/Region 4 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: The earnest narrator of "Doing Time for Patsy Cline," a muddled cinematic ballad to American country music, is 18-year-old Ralph (Matt Day), a naïve, guitar-toting farm boy who leaves home to seek his musical fortune in Nashville. While hitchhiking to Sydney, he is picked up by Boyd (Richard Roxburgh), a volatile, been-there-done-that kind of guy in a green Jaguar, traveling and squabbling with his redheaded girlfriend, Patsy (Miranda Otto). Just as the speed-fueled couple in the car are about to blow their lids, the police screech up behind the travelers and arrest them for drug possession. As Patsy flees, Boyd desperately turns on Ralph, accusing him of car theft and dealing speed, and the two are put in a small-town jail until the case is sorted out. The saving graces of the film, written and directed by Chris Kennedy, are its performances, especially Mr. Roxburgh's portrayal of a floundering lost soul with little to show for an itinerant life, and Ms. Otto's ditsy, mercurial and ultimately touching country singer.
