Amazon.com:
Every member of Bravo's stylish quintet gets to shine in The Fab Five Collection. Fashion expert Carson Kressley ("Style"), interior designer Thom Filicia ("Home"), and kitchen connoisseur Ted Allen ("Food and Wine") all get their own double-disc sets, while grooming guru Kyan Douglas and culture maven Jai Rodriguez share one ("Looking Good"). Each features an hour of highlights (clips arranged by theme). In addition, Carson and Thom's sets include bonus outtake DVDs. The other bonus discs are hour-long CDs: the dance-oriented "Deep Collective" for Kyan and Jai and chilled-out "Lounge Essentials" for Ted, whose DVD also includes recipes.

The highlights are instructive and entertaining, but only two full-length episodes are included. Consequently, this collection is likely to be appreciated more by those already familiar with the Emmy Award-winning series since much of the context is gone, i.e. who the subjects are and why they agreed to appear on the program. The first episode, included with Carson's Style, is "He's a Little Bit Country, She's a Little Bit Overwhelmed," in which the Five "make better" a New Jersey contractor who wants everything to be perfect when he proposes to his girlfriend. (It was actually the fourth episode.) The series debut, "Hair Today, Art Tomorrow: From Mess to Masterpiece," included with Thom's Home, focuses on a New York artist who wants to make a good impression at his first gallery opening. (In both cases, the two hours of material could have easily fit on one disc.)

Overall, The Fab Five Collection is an enjoyable look back at the first season of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Like the show, it's packed with witty comments and useful tips. Now Bravo just needs to bring the entire series to disc--with commentary from every Fabulous member of the Five. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - love the show--hate the DVDs
This group of DVDs is mostly a collection of themed montages. A clip here, a bite there all around a single individual. You jump quickly from spot to spot. To me, it was like watching hours and hours of an introduction. That said, I live overseas and have limited access to American TV so it was better than nothing. Glad I borrowed it and didn't buy it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S x 5!!
The Fabulous 5 boxed set only leaves me panting for more! Target audience men in my life are enjoying what they learn, as are the other fabulous men in my life! I'm ready for more, Boys!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - The Fab Five Collection
This was a REAL disappointment. The initial Amazon review gave the impression that I was buying the show since I live overseas and only see recordings from time to time. I was looking forward to seeing all the shows back to back. These DVDs were clips and outtakes from the shows and if I had opened this before leaving the US I would have returned it. For me, it was a big waste of money and the producers of the show should know it. I'll avoid any offering that comes out in the future based on ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - not what I expected
As someone who has not seen many episodes of Queer Eye, I was a little disappointed. The 8 DVDs contain only 2 full episodes, and the rest is out-takes, snippets, and 2 music CDs. While it's always fun to watch the guys, when it was out of context of an entire show it wasn't as enjoyable for me. I like to know the back-story on the straight guy. Worth purchasing since there's nothing else out there right now, but it could be better.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - These ARE five fab guys!
I just bought this yesterday and I was not disappointed. Kyan is my favorite but I love the sense of humor and candor of each of these guys. They are all funny and endearing and seem like they are having the time of their lives. Their enthusiasm for what they do is infectious.....
