Editorial Review:
Description: Steve Guttenberg (Three Men and a Baby) portrays Pecos Bill, the "King of the Cowboys," in this rootin’ tootin’ epic. Raised by coyotes, Bill puts the "wild" in the Wild West settlement of Petunia City. When his rowdy behavior gets him run out of town, he heads for Mexico. There, Bill lassoes a cyclone to save the state of Texas from drought. His heroics become campfire legend, proving that selflessness and bravery are never forgotten. The tall tale’s amazing cast includes Rebecca De Mornay, playing the sassy Slew Foot Sue, as well as comedian Martin Mull and Will & Grace’s Megan Mullally.
Amazon.com: This lively and entertaining cable series was highlighted by lots of famous faces in familiar classic tales (as was Shelley Duvall's Fairie Tale Theater). Pecos Bill, King of the Cowboys brings together then-sizzlin' hot Steven Guttenberg and Rebecca DeMornay, fresh from box-office success ("Cocoon," "Risky Business," respectively). This mid-'80s series captures them at their most appealing. Guttenberg embodies the naively charming Pecos Bill, who was raised by wolves and rowdy enough to set dreary little Petunia City, Texas, on its staid little ear. DeMornay, as the mayor's misunderstood and tomboyish daughter, is coy and sweet, and when she grabs Pecos Bill's fancy, she has the audience rootin' for her. Like Duvall's other tales there is an appropriately good message, but one welcomed by any parent. Viewers will learn about looking at things from a different perspective, that change can be good, that acceptance and kindness are rewarded, and that the West really was wild. Martin Mull, as the town's mayor, is, as usual, excellent and funny. (Ages 4 and older) --N.F. Mendoza

THIS VIDEO HAS BECOME A FAMILY FAVORITE FROM MY 2-YEAR-OLD BROTHER TO MY PARENTS. I LIKE THIS VIDEO A LOT BECAUSE IT IS FULL OF LAUGHS, AND VERY COLORFUL,WESTERN SCENERY. THIS IS A VIDEO THAT WE CAN ALL WATCH TOGETHER. WE ARE A FAN OF DUVALL'S TALL TALES AND LEGENDS, BUT WE MUST ADMIT THAT THIS ONE IS PROBABLY OUR FAVORITE. IF YOU HAD TO PICK ONE, THIS IS THE ONE TO START WITH. IT'S GUARANTEED TO LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN LAUGHING.

Like the previous reviewer mentioned, this is the best of the Tall Tales and Legends series. It hits just the right balance between storytelling and humor, and parents will find it just as entertaining as the kids. More than any of the others, this episode captures the flavor and magic of what tall tales are all about. It manages to maintain a sense of wonder that will spark the imaginations of the viewers. Steve Gutenberg has the role of his career as Pecos Bill. He is perfectly matched by Rebecca ... Read More

Probably one of the best Tall Tales available. Our whole family loves this one. Everyone in it is hysterical! The first part of this video also gives a good overview of what a tall tale is about.
