Okay this toy is awesome and has some amazing things about it. I would like to say that for the first time did it take me two days to build a lego. I could have probably done it in one day if I devoted the time to it but I didn't mind. Legos are my puzzles that I build anyways off subject. Okay my overall rating of 4 stars and 3 for fun is because of the power this thing lacks and some quirks that I think need to be worked out. Another AFOL here. I bought this for my own Christmas present, needed to wait 7 weeks, and finally got to put it together over the spring. There are gobs of nice parts, and the crane does a very good job teaching mechanical concepts. As a learning tool it is a great value. As a parts tool it is a very good value.
From shelf appeal, its better then ... well, a lot of things come to mind!

I have not been following the Technic series for quite a while but when I saw this I knew I have to get it. And get it I did. It might be a bit pricey, and personally I don't like motorized pieces because of uncertainty (might go kaputt anytime), but this sure is a looker! However it is not all perfect, IMHO; the outriggers could have been made more powerful (how so is another matter). The turntable could have been geared.
