A classic post-war Ealing film that is worth buying and watching over and over. Believe me it improves with every viewing. Previous reviewers have already outlined the plot so I'm not going to repeat that. What I will say is that this is a highly original, well-scripted and marvellously well directed film that has many laugh out-loud moments. Look out for a young Michael Horden who has a small role.

Fine satirical social comedy from Ealing Studios about the controversial consequences due to the accidental discovery of an ancient buried document that certifies Pimplico, a little district of London, as part of an old Dukedom . The Whitehall bureaucracy alerted of the " terrible " situation that this supposes for their pockets won't skimp efforts to damage the recent independent district cutting off its pipes and bribing the press. I was reminded of this little comedy through something I had read and recently obtained it for family viewing. Although very dated it is an amusing work in the great British tradition of fighting bureaucracy and government in general and poking fun at ourselves too.
