Editorial Review:
Product Description: Your TV-B-Gone universal remote control resembles other TV remote controls, but is different in two important ways. First, it only has a power button that allows you to switch a TV on or off. You control when you see, rather than what you see. Second, the device is so small that it easily fits in your pocket, so that you have it handy whenever you need it wherever you go: airports, bars, restaurants, laundromats, etc.TV-B-Gone features the Instant Reactivation Feature which allows you to turn TVs on or off quickly and easily. TV-B-Gone is a type of Universal Remote Control which works by shining pulses of invisible light that tells most any TV to turn off or on.
Amazon.com Product Description: You're sitting in a restaurant with your friends. The TV in the corner is blaring. You realize that none of you are actually talking to each other. Instead, you're all staring at a piece of furniture!
Now there's a solution: the TV-B-Gone. This small keychain wonder is designed to turn off virtually any television. Invented by Mitch Altman, a former Silicon Valley entrepreneur, the TV-B-Gone is a simple remote control device with a single button. When activated, the unit emits 209 different turn-off codes for nearly every TV. The unit takes a little more than a minute to cycle through all of the turn-off codes, but fortunately, codes for the most common TVs are emitted first. And because it's small, unassuming, and attaches to your key ring, you can always be discreet about offing that off-putting talking head.
Just think, more authentic and meaningful social interactions can be yours in seconds. Be prepared when the TV goes off, though; you may have to talk to those friends of yours at the table. Of course, if it's just simple silence you're after, the TV-B-Gone delivers that, too. So pick up that book and enjoy!
What's in the Box TV-B-Gone keychain remote control, increased sense of wellbeing, less anxiety, more time for productive activity, more satisfying social interactions, user's manual.

To all of the other reviewers that are having trouble with this little baby - GET A REPLACEMENT. Yours is clearly defective if it can't turn off TVs from across a dining room in a restaurant just sitting on your table. Mine works like a charm! This is the greatest thing to happen for human-to-human conversation in a LONG time, and the best $15 I have ever spent! When I was growing up, the only TVs in restaurants were at sports bars and pizza places that showed the games. Now, I CAN'T GET AWAY FROM ... Read More

I've had mine for over five years now, and it has never failed to provide the proper atmosphere for a serious conversation with my date, when we are schmoozing at a secluded table in a bar whose blaring TV suddenly goes dark. A Godsend.
It recently stopped working (remember, it's been over five years), and I learned from their excellent customer support that it has three batteries, not just one, and found easy directions on how to change them at their web site, [...] . I am back in ... Read More

I never heard of this but simply must buy it. Imagine never having to be tortured (in a way far worse than mere waterboarding!) by CNN in airports and freeway rest areas again. OMG I've found nirvana!

I've purchased several TV-B-Gones over the years (given most as presents), and they've all worked flawlessly. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a restaurant with small children, only to have them stare at the Idiot Box on the wall. GRRR! Once I got a TV-B-Gone, that problem went away, with no one complaining. Last summer we were on vacation and went into a sports bar that had a restaurant attached. I don't know why they felt it was necessary, but there were SIX tv's around the restaurant ... Read More

I have an older version of this gadget - it will pretty much turn off any TV around except for my father in laws rear projection Sanyo. I'd assume the newest "3.0" version would handle that. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it eats batteries (new version supposedly better), the plastic housing is on the cheap side, and the styling is straight out of the 1950s - I wish it really did look like a car alarm keyfob! But I wouldn't be without it, the proliferation of blabbing TVs drives me NUTS! My ... Read More
