Editorial Review:
Album Description: The Nickelodeon series "Spongebob Squarepants"--a sharp, funny cartoon that attracts more viewers than any other program on the channel and has spawned a $2 billion-a-year franchise--reaches the big screen with The Sponge Boy SquarePants Movie. Its album features music written for the animation plus live action film and perfrormed by a Modern Rock roster appealing to the show's college audience, including The Flaming Lips, Wilco, The Shins and The Dust Brothers' Mike Simpson. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Music From the Movie and More-slated to be in a bright yellow jewel case-is destined to be that rare soundtrack that is both a favorite of kids and a college cult classic.
Amazon.com: There's an ocean of reasons Nickelodeon fans and moviegoers will want to own the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack, not least of which is its cover art. Even if such aesthetic considerations bore you--even if the movie itself bores you, you'll want to dive right in, because the packaging pales in comparison to the content. Skate-punk queen Avril Lavigne cranks up the guitars for a caffeinated cover of the cartoon theme; the Flaming Lips figure out what happens when "SpongeBob & Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy;" alt-rock heroes Wilco revisit music simpler than what's on their latest discs with "Just a Kid;" and indie rockers the Shins let it rip on "They'll Soon Discover." Lesser-known acts Ween and Electrocute also contribute, and they're matched in the keep-up-the-tempo challenge by characters including Patrick. His track, the barely listenable "Under My Rock," earns him the dubious distinction of the disc's biggest bellyflopper, but overall audiences will be squeezed to find a recent soundtrack as absorbing. --Tammy La Gorce

I can say one thing you will probably get exactly what you are expecting when you order this. The whole album is pretty perdictable, but it has some funny and decent songs. Most Spongebob fans will enjoy it.

My son, age 5, loves the rockin' version of the Goofy Goober song, which is the same as in the movie. If your child likes the movie, the soundtrack is great to have. It's a lot of fun.

If there's any one movie I can tell you with honesty that I've seen over 100 times, it's easily The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Originally, I had only seen it maybe 5 times, but when I used to work in a movie store, my buddy an' me would constantly have the movie playing, setting it to repeat until we closed the store. That was every single day we worked together. The movie never got old, but even better was that we memorized the incredible soundtrack. The likes of The Lion King have NOTHING on ... Read More
