While providing quality entertainment for the troops and to families across the nation, these specials also documented the history of one of the most turbulent times in America. Each show is narrated by Hope and includes information about his ambitious tours through Thailand, Taiwan and Guam as well as touching interviews with the soldiers he met along the way.
Hope’s holiday salute to the troops became an instant favorite with television audiences. The 1965 special won an Emmy Award® and the special from 1970 is still ranked among the 15 highest-rated television programs to date. Bob Hope will always be remembered for his dedication to the armed forces. Back in 1941 he began the custom of traveling the world to uplift the spirit of American troops stationed over seas. This custom became tradition the Christmas of ‘48 when Bob, with wife Dolores, flew to Europe to entertain Americans involved with the Berlin airlift.
Always at the top of his game on the road, his devotion endured through the sixties and seventies, when American Troops were deployed to Vietnam. This 3-disc set captures Hope’s most memorable moments as he performed for the troops from 1964 - 1972.

These shows are great! Bob was a wonderful entertainer. I saw the show at Clark AFB. I hope that someone will gather the other shows from 1948 on and put those out.
I cannot understand why someone would rate these 1 star just because there is a problem with a disc. You should be reviewing the show, not a production problem. A product problem gets resolved by getting a replacement, this does not affect the content which is what people want to read about.

I remember watching these Christmas specials on TV back in the 60's and I really enjoyed them then and this DVD brought back those memories. I would like to find the older ones, before 1964. That was Bob at his best in my book.

I wasn't born until 1966, but I remember watching lots of Bob Hope specials over the years. This set covering his Vietnam era travels is great. True, some of the humor is dated, but it is great to watch as a time capsule. Especially great (in both a sad and happy way) is being able to see the troops and how they were able to forget the war for a little while. It was great of Bob Hope to give of his life to serve the troops.

I bought this mainly for the show Bob Hope did in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam in 1967, which I attended. I think I saw mysef in the film, I was the dot on the hill. It had other shows that were classic Bob Hope who I thought as one of the top ten stars in my life. Great DVD for us boomers and even my grandson enjoyed it. My dad was drafted into the Vietnam War and was wounded on Christmas Day. Bob Hope did a Christmas show for the troops at the place he was being treated and we were able to see him in the crowd of men at the show that day. He was so happy that I baught the dvd's of Bob Hope's show for him for Father's Day.
