Amazon.com:
Based on a comic book, the international co-production Renegade (original English-language title: Blueberry) is a feverish, supernatural Western about a young Cajun man, Mike Blueberry (Hugh O'Connor), who defends his prostitute-girlfriend against gunman Wallace Blount (Michael Madsen) and ends up barely alive. Patched up by Indians, Blueberry undergoes the familiar cultural transformation to honorary Native American, then returns to his world to become a small-town marshal. (Vincent Cassel plays the adult Blueberry.) The arrival of Blount, possessed with otherworldly powers and seeking a mystical manuscript, sets the stage for a spooky duel that forces Blueberry to face old demons. The latter part of the film is overtaken by computer-generated effects that grow wearying, but before that director Jan Kounen makes up for weak narrative skills with mesmerizing imagery of the American Southwest. A nice supporting cast includes Juliette Lewis and her father, Geoffrey Lewis, plus Colm Meaney, Eddie Izzard, Ernest Borgnine, and Tcheky Karyo. --Tom Keogh

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Worst 'so called" Western of 2004
This has got to be the worst movie of 2004. Possibly the worst of the decade. I can see NO redeeming atributes what-so-ever. A total waste of film and a waste of your 2 hours.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - SUPERB PSYCHEDELLIA
Renegade (aka Blueberry)SUPERB PSYCHEDELLIA- This film literally blew me away. It is the most accurate portrayal of a full blown high dose psychedellic experience that I have ever seen in a motion picture. Too bad Tim Leary isn't around on the physical plane to have caught this one. I am sure that he would have praised it to no end with his considerable mastery of the written word.
As a film, the cinematography is excellent and the editing places the visuals and story line into the realm of ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Snakes!
From what I understand, the director managed to get the visions of the drug accurate. The drug they are using causes intense violent vomiting followed by curious hallucinations. The most common vision reported appears to be of snakes.... But also the drug of choice (the snakey drug) would not have been that common in the southwest. It would have more likely been a south american visitation.... But, hey, call it creative license.

So enjoy the film. It's a bizarre hoot... And it's got Ernie ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Watch it again and again.
Simply put, the closest you'll get to seeing the other worlds of spirit and true reality without taking Ayahuasca or Peyote.
The director took over a hundred trips on Ayahuasca, helped by a real shaman (the old Indian in the film!). The effects portray as close as possible the reality of the experience.
Mind blowing stuff. The last time I watched it I fast forwarded through the slow parts, stopping at the key plot elements, and also stopping to savour the trippy parts. Madsen is great ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - SO much greater than one would expect
When one peruses the aisles of films at a movie rental shop or even online, he would most likely pass over this one with a recognition of indifference. Even for its genre (Western) it may not catch the eye of a potential viewer due to its fairly non enticing cover. I myself did not know what to expect. BUT YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT THIS MOVIE! It is so amazing! It is nothing like any western or any other film for that matter. It is SO well done in terms of its cinematography and visuals. The story is also ... Read More
