Editorial Review:
Description: Kirk Douglas stars as Owen Waterbury, a philandering best-selling novelist. When aspiring writer Stephanie Gaylord signs on as his secretary, Waterbury approaches her as another sexual conquest. But Stephanie is not so easily won over, thus winning Waterbury over to change to her standards.

This is a great, lighthearted, fun movie! For a contemporary, younger generation, it's probably just too much. But the generation for whom this movie was made, a generation that went thru a war that just killed 60 plus million poeple world wide, it was a simple, fun-loving, fresh, happy, 'the-future-did-look-brighter-and-new-days-were-coming' type of movie. It touches a wonderfully simple sense of love enough times to leave you in a better frame of mind once you have finished the last moments ... Read More

Of course with an Alpha dvd my expectations weren't that high, but I was actually expecting a better movie. Don't get me wrong, this has a top-notch cast, but they can only do so much with the awkward script which is mostly strained and unfunny throughout the film. Kirk Douglas plays ladies man and best-selling novelist Owen Waterbury, who's having trouble getting his latest novel started. Waterbury's ... Read More

The film is worth watching for its portrait of a time long gone, but not interesting enough to watch twice. I expected a wittier film than I got, but enjoyed looking at the great costumes worn by Laraine Day. The problem is that the story is perfunctory and jerkily paced. Kirk Douglas is the weakest character. No way do you believe that Kirk Douglas has fallen in love with Loraine Day, or that the swift turnabouts in personality are credible. But Laraine glows and is fun to watch, and the supporting characters ... Read More

For those of you who may have stumbled on this movie by accident, let me tell you that for the price you won't find a better movie. The comedy is sharp and the dialogue is better than any episode of Frasier. Wynn rules as the Godfather Of All Slackers: "If you have the opportunity to get paid for doing nothing then grab it, you fool!".
