Amazon.com: "Being married is the normal way to live... isn't it?" The note of doubt at the end of that statement is fully exploited in How to Murder Your Wife (1965), a barbed piece of war-between-the-sexes comedy. Cartoonist Jack Lemmon, an exponent of the Playboy philosophy, lives in the ultimate swinging bachelor townhouse ("Everything masculine and perfect," manservant Terry-Thomas says approvingly) until a drunken evening leads to marriage with an Italian bombshell (Virna Lisi). What to do? The whole movie seems to exist in order to arrive at Lemmon's clever courtroom oration in the final half-hour, which is tartly funny if datedly misogynistic: he unleashes a male fantasy of trashing the gray-flannel suit and late-model station wagon for Hefneresque freedom. The wheel-spinning of the early reels is curious coming from screenwriter George Axelrod, usually a reliable satirist. He had better hours than this, notably in Breakfast at Tiffany's and Lord Love a Duck. --Robert Horton

Pretty cute premise that takes an unexpected twist or two. My main complaint is that it's too long at 2 hrs, could have shaved off 20 minutes without thinking. The court scene and a bunch of italian dialogue especially, and some lawyer scenes. I enjoyed the butler's role. Lemon is quirky as usual, and checking out his townhouse was one of the hoots of the movie. More entertaining than funny overall, but too long. Good bachelor life movie though with a light touch.

I loved this movie, Jack Lemmon is his usual funny character, and Virna Lisi is gorgeous to look at. Fans of either star will like this film. I won't write a plot as its been written up here by many other reviewers but I don't think anyone mentioned the fabulous townhouse Lemmon shares with Terry-Thomas, a British comedian. I love these 60s "bachelor pad" movies with the like of Lemmon, Hudson, Randall, etc and their misadventures with beautiful women. I'd like to have a list of more.

A grisly title but really one of the great comedies ever made. Everybody does a great job and there's no stupid dialogue - just funny stuff. One of Lemmon's best roles and Verni Lisi is a knockout. A great movie to lose one's self in.
