The first season of Sanford and Son is classic TV at its best. This set has fourteen episodes because it's a half-season set. Twelve of the episodes are adaptations of scripts from the British series Steptoe and Son. Redd Foxx is what makes this series work; he's funny, has impeccable timing in line delivery & is very opinionated. You can't help but love his character though it seems like he doesn't like anybody, including his own son.

We watch this DVD about every two months and the whole family loves it. Especially my 10 year old son. We both Seasons two, three and six and watch them all the time. We laugh just like it's the first time we've seen it each time.

This is a sitcom about a father & son who are as different as could be, & yet care deeply for each other. The most basic format & probably the best one is the interaction of the characters. Today style & scenery can overshadow the scripts & actors. Not so here, the raw angst & bond between father & son has often been overlooked in this underappreciated show.
