This is a beautiful film. Making the story of a saint is never an easy task, as the film can easily turn to preachy, sappy, holier than thou mush. Molokai does not do this. It shows Fr. Damien as a very human person, but one who loves his vocation, his faith, his God, and his fellow man. It is very inspiring. The scene where Fr. This film has many beauties. Most noticeable are the exquisite cinemotography and acting. The first time I watched it, the pace and the difficulty of hearing some of dialogue bothered me. But it drew me to see it again. The second time I fell in love with it and with Fr.Damien. He was Christ to these people. I now see the pace as an asset to the meditative quality of the film. This film is mainly marred by its slow pace. But even so it's an interesting film about a piece of history I had not known about, with first-rate performances (especially by Peter O'Toole in a smallish role).

You will see the truly blessed side of faith and discover a wonderful side of the Catholic ... Read More

Father Damien's story is very familian in the Hawaiian Island's, however, I have found few who know him on the mainland. He was a man of awesome faith. The movie properly shows his love and humility as he fully serves God through the priesthood.
