Editorial Review:
Description: Acclaimed director John Badham delivers a winning combination of action, suspense, comedy, and romance! Convinced that a dangerous escaped convict (Aidan Quinn) is headed for his ex-girlfriend's (Madeleine Stowe), a pair of Seattle detectives (Richard Dreyfuss, Emilio Estevez) stakeout her apartment. The watch remains routine until one of the detectives begins a high-risk romance with the woman under surveillance -- jeopardizing not only the partners' careers ... But also their lives!

The picture begins on a cold night. A truck enters a prison, the driver is searched. Two prisoners fight in a cell. This diversion allows an escape. The police are on the trail of this fugitive. Elsewhere two detectives find a fugitive in a fish factory. Then they are assigned to a new task force to find the escaped prisoner; he has a girlfriend in Seattle. They tap the telephone of this girlfriend and intercept the call from the fugitive. [Is this too easy?] Would a telephone repairman show up at ... Read More

Wow another Madeleine Stowe movie! Richard Dreyfuss is getting too long in the tooth, but he does a great job, and Emilio Estevez is superb in his role, the other two bozo detectives are hilariously funny, but the end sort of drags out too long for what should have been a fairly quick resolution of the problem, but then again, directors and producers need to fill those minutes,

Richard Dreyfuss is excellent as a cop on a stakeout (along with partner Emilio Estevez) of pretty Madeleine Stowe (they have to watch her house through the night), and he falls in love with her. Before the movie is over there's a big car chase and an exciting climax in a lumber mill with a killer (Aidan Quinn). It's pretty standard fare for this kind of cop movie, but the script is above average - especially the dialogue - and Dreyfuss's performance is right on target. A very entertaining movie; ... Although the film lasted a bit longer than it should have been, I thought it was OK. I do think however the film would have been a lot more watchable if it hadn't been for Emilio Estevez's god awful weedy little mustache. How long did that take him to grow? A few months? Take it from me sweetie, it doesn't make you less baby-faced, it makes you stupid. And how about Madeleine Stowe? She was certainly the best bit about the movie, and for trivia fans, she also appeared in Little House On The Prairie. Good ... Read More
