I gave this to my daughter on her birthday and it brought instant tears of happiness. She and her sister had won a talent contest in high school by mimeing "Telephone Man" and with other songs on the album the memories came flooding back. Too bad "Peter The Meter Reader" wasn't included, but still a treasure.

Anyone who grew up with Top 40 radio in the 50's and 60's will find these a pleasant surprise. Especially rare is Paul Evans' Seven Little Girls Sitting In The Back Seat, a top 10 hit in 1959 but virtually unavailable until now. Also Ne Ne Na Na Na Na Nu Nu by Dickey Do and The Don'ts from 1958 was a daily romp on American Bandstand, also very rare to find. I think one of the other reviewers missed the point on this excellent package from Varèse Sarabande: it doesn't claim to be THE 25 all-time novelty hits - just 25 of a number that have an enduring dearness for those of us who appreciated a break from R&R, pop, C&W, disco, Soul, R&B or whatever during the 1950s through 1970s.
It even reaches back to 1946 for Shaving Cream by Benny Bell [real name Ben Samberg], a sensation at that time for its suggestive lyrics, and revived in 1975 thanks ... Read More

Just to correct an earlier review, ALL of these tracks were chart singles. A few, though, charted lower than the Top 30. The chart positions of the others:

This CD contains a very nice collection of musical oddities. Songs that were very popular at one time (because of the 'novelty-gimmick'), but faded away afterwards, sometimes never to be heard from again!
This will bring back memories! It also proves that, in order to have a hit, all it sometimes takes is a brainwave and a nut or two to perform the darned thing!
The majority of these songs is known in Holland, some others I've never ever heard before (aimed at the USA market, no doubt). Nevertheless, ... Read More
