Amazon.com:
A young Rick Schroder makes his cute-as-all-get-out film debut in this 1979 tearjerker from director Franco Zeffirelli. Jon Voight plays Billy Flynn, a former champion boxer now given to drinking, gambling, and raising his son T.J. (Schroder, billed here as Ricky) as best he can. The ups and downs of the devoted codependent pair might be enough movie on their own, but soon enough Annie (Faye Dunaway) shows up and displays a strangely protective interest in T.J. Though the plot jumps around too much to quite hold together, The Champ is certainly affecting, and all three leads take the film so earnestly that somehow it works. Voight is believable both as a boxer and as a well-intentioned screwup of a dad, and Schroder is a fine young actor (and irresistibly adorable). Special DVD features include audio commentary from Jon Voight and Rick Schroder and the documentary Behind the Scenes with the Champ. --Ali Davis

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Champ
One of the best movies made ever....... GREAT, GREAT, Movie.... If you haven't seen it you need to see it........

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - What happended to Jon Voight?!!
I used to enjoy Jon Voight. Deliverance was perfect, and he was rockin' it in Heat. Midnight Cowboy was lovely. I even dug the Champ. Now I learn that he's a complete fool who hates Obama and thinks the country is headed to hell (or at least socialism). No wonder Angelina won't speak to him anymore. Doesn't it just suck when actors you admired do that? Damn. Jon, you're an idiot mate.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Should viewed by all teens as they contemplate marriage someday.
The only negative is the irreverant use of God's name. The movie is one that all men should view whenever they want to take marraige, or sex in general, lightly. The pain and hurt that adults put on children just because they put their own sexual desires ahead of long-term thought is depicted so well in this film.
This is an excellent movie to be watched by an entire family to open up productive communication between parents and teens.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Movie's great, DVD wasn't!
Well, I do love the movie "The Champ". Actually, we "tried" to watch it last night and it was completely fine until about the 8th scene, where it stopped and there was nothing on it afterward. We tried to put it into another DVD player on another tv and unfortunately, the same thing. I guess the DVD is defective. It was mailed in good time and everything in that regard was fine, it's just that it didn't work after the 8th scene. We tried everything after that scene, yet nothing would show. Well, ... Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Movie
I wish I had read closer and seen it was a VHS. The tape is fine and the delivery was punctual. I was so excited about the price and locating the movie, I ordered without noticing it was a VHS ad not a CD. My bad. But I would order from this company again.
